1 post | 2 read | 2 to read
A man’s mission to solve a friend’s murder makes him the next target in a deadly Chinese conspiracy in this gripping thriller from New York Times–bestselling author Carl Hiaasen Art history professor Tom Stratton hasn’t seen his former mentor David Wang for years—until they unexpectedly run into each other while Stratton is on a guided tour of China. But the trip quickly turns sinister when Wang is found dead. After the American embassy fumbles the investigation, Stratton sets out to solve the crime on his own, and quickly finds himself tangled in a web of corruption and murder that reaches the highest seats of power. Beset by the suffocating secrecy and subterfuge of communist China, Stratton must solve his friend’s murder—before the fury of a brutal conspiracy closes in on him.

Mehso-so

I bought this because I love Carl Hiaasen, but this has little of the humor of his solo books (gore is still in heavy supply). Should I have guessed by the cover?
