Newspaper of Claremont Street
Newspaper of Claremont Street | Elizabeth Jolley
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
This is the story of an old cleaning woman—known as “Weekly” or “The Newspaper” to the residents of Claremont Street for whom she works—who dreams of escape from the parasitic demands of both her past and her present. This new edition of a contemporary classic reintroduces this very popular and distinctive character.

#MarchMunchies Day 15 #Pears

Jolley was a prolific writer. She was in her 50s when her work was first published. Born in the UK, she moved to Western Australia in the 1950s. She died in 2007 😢.

I love her work & was fortunate to have her as lecturer at uni. I found this book on my shelf today when I was looking for #pears. There is a scene in it where she dances around a pear tree.

Now I‘m going to have the pear & blue cheese for my lunch 😋.

CarolynM Snap, that's what I had for lunch too! Lovely photo 7y
Tamra My kind of lunch. 😊 7y
