3/5. I'm starting to work my way through a stack of young adult dystopian lit that we are using for lit circles in 9th grade English. I haven't read all the titles selected, so I have a couple months to get through the ones that are new to me. This is the 1st, and it's not bad. I would have liked a little more depth to the world building, but as it's a series, I suppose the author is saving some for the sequels. #YAL #dystopia #bookseries

While I am a big Allegra Goodman fan, her young adult novel didn't do it for me. In a dystopian future brought about by severe climate change, Honor and her parents struggle to cope in a highly controlled society. Timely for its climate change and totalitarian authority themes, and the exploration of how Honor reacts differently than her parents is realistic, but the "bad guys" motivations weren't as developed, which lowered the tension for me.

The world has been devastated by disastrous weather, and an attempt has been made to "enclose" it. However, this has led to a controlling government. How will Honest and her family deal with this, especially since Honest wants to fit in and her parents want freedom?
