Rick Steves Snapshot Milan & the Italian Lakes District
Rick Steves Snapshot Milan & the Italian Lakes District | Rick Steves
9 posts | 1 read
You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in Milan and the Italian lakes district. In this compact guide, Rick Steves covers the essentials of Milan and the Italian lakes district, including Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. Relax in the sleepy village of Varenna, visit the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens, or check out the museums in Sforza Castle. You'll get Rick's firsthand advice on the best sights, eating, sleeping, and nightlife, and the maps and self-guided tours will ensure you make the most of your experience. More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves Snapshot guide is a tour guide in your pocket. Rick Steves Snapshot guides consist of excerpted chapters from Rick Steves European country guidebooks. Snapshot guides are a great choice for travelers visiting a specific city or region, rather than multiple European destinations. These slim guides offer all of Rick's up-to-date advice on what sights are worth your time and money. They include good-value hotel and restaurant recommendations, with no introductory information (such as overall trip planning, when to go, and travel practicalities).

Views from Mottarone with views of the Alps, Lago Maggiore, and surrounding areas. Two cable cars and a chair life to get these views. The photos in travel books do not do the area justice.... nor do my photos, but they help me relive the experience. These are snow capped mountains in June! It is the Alps, after all.

Read the book a few months ago to prepare for this trip, my friend‘s wedding. Isola Bella is an amazing island, the castle, gardens, and statuary are just gorgeous. I have taken nearly 1,000 photos in 1 day!

19/52 - 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 - Instead of stars, I gave this book 5 glasses of red wine! I am terribly excited about being in Italy on my birthday and this book provided me with a great overview of the lake area and Milan, both areas I will be exploring on this European adventure. I‘m a fan of his travel books and he never disappoints.

Aims42 I love watching his show on PBS 7y
Tjackson @Aims42 Great! I watched a 45 minute YouTube video. I bet it‘s the same production. I can‘t wait to go. 7y

Since I‘m not able to sleep and lately I haven‘t had much time to read because of work, I‘m reading now.

Squeezing in a little more reading before I head off to work. Reading about bakeries in Milan while eating my breakfast. I would ❤️❤️❤️ to be eating an Italian breakfast this morning.

Anna40 Sorry to be a smarty pants but an Italian breakfast consists of some simple cookies and coffee or fette biscottate- very dry bread - with butter and jam. BUT if you eat breakfast "al bar" you can get what they call brioche. It's wonderful pastry filled with jam, chocolate or vanilla cream ? 7y
Tjackson Yes, I am happy with coffee and any Italian pastry. When in Rome, I had a different pastry each day. Such good memories. The brioche in the states is not nearly as good. 7y

I am not sure why Rick only gives The Last Supper 2 red triangles instead of 3, but this is my reason for spending time in Milan this June!! There are a limited number of Da Vinci‘s and since I am going to be just 1 hour by train away from a Da Vinci fresco, I must see it.
