pickDelightfully all over the place. I love the way Kate Atkinson plays with the structure of novels and finds intriguing ways to tell stories. See you don‘t just get a story about a quest for identity, you get a Scottish campus novel as well. Reminiscent of A Very Peculiar Practice, but that‘s by the by. Bravo!

pick21-year-old Effie and her mother are on a remote Scottish island and begin to tell stories - Effie's centring on her life as a student in Dundee and her mother's on her past and Effie's true origins. The Effie sections are frequently hilarious and there's also a weird Alice in Wonderland motif going on throughout. She also has tremendous fun parodying the tropes of a variety of genres, most hilariously sub-Tolkienesque fantasy. I liked it a lot.
pickJust finished this morning. Wonderful. I am loving her books. I've read my way through all her Case Histories series . Also watched the TV series . Just got another f her books out of the library here but have a suspicion that I might have read it 😊😊 @MrsMalaprop
A great description of Dundee, for me anyway! 😊😊 . I'm loving this book.
Found in an op shop here. Published in 2000. I'm really enjoying it. Laughing out loud. Having been here , Scotland, many times and also having lived through the 1970s , I can relate. She is such a good/ great writer. I'm loving her work more and more with each read. @MrsMalaprop

Kate Atkinson has been hit or miss with me. I loved Life After Life, was "meh" about Behind The Scenes At The Museum and hated God In Ruins
When you read something and think- 'yep, that's me'
Today's new start! I'm a big fan of Kate Atkinson, I love her writing style and her characterisation. Excited to see what I have in store!
And you can't explain that you're in a funky mood because the book you've just read has affected you so emotionally. You feel like you can't engage in the real world because you're still emotionally stuck in the pretend one.

so-soIt was fine. I didn't enjoy it as much as the others I've read by the great Kate. This might be her first or second novel. It's full of wit, true laugh moments, and those bits are always worth the journey.
Can you feel his ire at being pressed in to service as a book prop? This is what I'm reading now. I loved Life After Life, Human Croquet and Behind The Scenes at the Museum. The odds are good I will enjoy this one too.
