This book can help students identify their own emotions. As well as big elections they may feel.

A quote from The Way I Feel by Janan Cain is: “I feel angry when I have to wait, when I don‘t get my way.“ This line helps children recognize and express feelings of anger, making it a useful tool for discussing emotional responses and coping strategies in the classroom.

“FRUSTRATED, I'm frustrated because I can't do it. It's hard and I wan't to cry.“

This quote resonates with me because I have definitely had those times in college where I have felt defeated.

The Way I Feel | Janan Cain

This book talks a lot about feelings and different emotions. Which is important because there are some kids that don't understand how to process emotions.

Feelings come and feelings go. I never know what they'll be. Silly or angry, happy or sad - They're all a part of me!

blurb

The Way I Feel | Janan Cain

I enjoyed the illustrations in this book as they matched well with the feelings that were being described. This helps readers identify the feelings better as sometimes the words to express our feelings can be lost, but visuals help.

Pickpick

This book does an excellent job describing the different emotions a person may feel and why they may feel those emotions. This book would be helpful for younger students as they learn to express and manage their feelings. The illustrations also speak volumes as they pair well with the feelings that are being described.

I‘m really annoyed about this merger with library thing! Since the merger/migration I haven‘t been able to see anyone else‘s posts but my own. And I‘m not all that impressed with library thing. I can‘t figure out how to use it as a social network, and why would I want to when I have Litsy? And it doesn‘t seem to work very well for a cataloging system since I can‘t scan a barcode and enter it that way. What are everyone else‘s thoughts?

Bookishlie I didn't realize it merged. I never use my library thing account because it's not very intuitive. 7y
theresidentromantic I hope this helps a little, it helped me. Go to your profile, click on the settings knob in the upper left. Then, switch off the "show featured posts". I saw a lot more varied posts after I shut that off. I don't even know who of my followed was considered "featured"! Hope that works :) 7y
CatLass007 @theresidentromantic Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but it didn‘t help. 7y

Settings You can scan barcodes with the Librarything app. 7y
Settings @CatLass007 I don't have the App installed so I cam 7y
Settings can't give you instructions (the one-click send button on Litsy where enter should be is infuriating, btw, I can't type accurately so I'm always clicking send when I ment to click backspace) 7y
CatLass007 @anoplph0ra Thanks anyway. 7y
MrsLee Hi, I'm a long time member of LT. I don't think they have changed anything here yet. There is a thread in LT talk about the merger. They said their first focus would be merging the search for titles feature. The LT app is available on Google play. You can download it there at least for Android, they also have an Apple compatible app. Not one for Windows phone. There is a Litsy group on LT, but I haven't looked at it yet. The LT app is great for scanning books into your catalog, but to access the groups you have to go to the website, which is a bit awkward on mobile devices. I seem to be able to see new posts here by going to my home page, then swiping down? I don't have that many connections, but I see new entries that way. 7y
CatLass007 @MrsLee Thanks for the info. 7y
Bostonmomx2 Ummm they didn‘t “merge” as in it‘s still 2 completely separate sites. If you don‘t like LT, you definitely don‘t have to use it. 7y
KathyWheeler @CatLass007 Click on the Add to Catalog button. Next to that is a small image of a barcode. Tap that and you can then scan barcodes. 7y
KathyWheeler @CatLass007 You‘re welcome. I use it all the time to catalog my books. Right now though, I‘m getting network problem messages, but that‘s the correct steps for adding by barcode. 7y
CatLass007 @KathyWheeler I‘ve got an app called SortIt! that I use for cataloging my collections - books, movies, music - I‘m just trying to decide if I want to switch. So far, I‘m satisfied with what I‘m using now. 7y
KathyWheeler @CatLass007 If you like what you‘re using, I‘d stay with it. LT was the very first app I‘ve ever used for cataloging and I‘ve always liked it for that. 7y
MrsLee @KathyWheeler I think LT is having issues tonight. The site is down. They say they will be up tomorrow. 7y

Pickpick

The Way I Feel, by Janan Cain, is a P/RF PB that I would love to use in my class for RA. The authors intent for this book is to give children the language for their emotions. It covers all the feelings (more than any Disney Pixar movie ) for kids to be better equipped to understand & express their feelings. I really enjoyed reading this book with my children & having them act out each emotion as we discussed it!

WendyV I found this really informative article from Michigan State University on helping children identify and express their emotions I thought I‘d share. http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/help_young_children_identify_and_express_emotions
I also wanted to include a lesson plan using this book. https://heartmindonline.org/resources/lesson-plan-the-way-i-feel This includes a great way to initiate a class discussion on students prior experience with emotions.

WendyV It‘s important for students to discuss this topic in whatever way is most comfortable to them. I would use UDL 5.2 by allowing many ways for my students to express themselves. They could discuss with peers or the class, write in their personal journal, draw a picture to represent their feelings, or whatever else I would feel is appropriate. I would use EL 14 & hand/facial gestures to help students understand better. 7y
Hervela.L Wow I love this whole entire post. I love the way you are giving the students a choice. Your UDL &EL is so on point. 7y

V.DeQuattro I really liked how you included the students in active learning by having them show the different emotions. I really enjoyed reading through the lesson plan that you attached. Awesome post!! @WendyV 7y
RaimeyGallant Such a fun cover. 7y
RaimeyGallant And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you need it.

WendyV @RaimeyGallant thanks for the warm welcomes! (Love the term Littens) 7y
RaimeyGallant I know. :) Super fun! 7y
morganhillman This book sounds awesome and a great way to show children how to express themselves in any situation. I loved how you said you made your kids act out each emotion because that allows them to get really engaged and excited for the reading, while also getting to learn and practice some new and old emotions! 7y
SadiqaH Seems interesting! The way you described the book I will definitely read this book, 7y
Jeffersleighann I am really interested in this book and would love to buy this for my future classroom! It is so important that students have resources to help them understand how they‘re feeling especially at a young age! 7y
kylamarie5 I‘ve never heard of this book! I would love to have it for my classroom library. I love that it shows/expresses emotions in pictures so kids can relate to it 7y
BriannaR This book seems like a cool book to read when the kids are having a bad day. It seems like it'll make them feel better; good choice. 7y
DrSpalding Technically this picture book is not nonfiction. Think about what nonfiction entails and I think you will come up with a different genre. Books that explore feelings are important in the primary grades. Excellent choice. 7y
WendyV @DrSpalding thanks for reminding me to pay attention closely to the genres! I was on a roll with NF books, hopefully my edit is more accurate now! 📚🤔 7y
Fiona_i This is a good book to read when your students might be having an off day. It's a good way for them to think about their emotions and get back on track. 7y
AshleyR I like your ideas on how to use this book in the classroom. 7y
DrSpalding Minor genre confusion in some posts. You‘ll see on the log when it‘s returned. Beyond this, your work is fabulous! 7y
