Better late than never: I've been to #Eurocon2018 in Amiens and took three autographs and made a photo with one of my #favorite authors, Sofia Samatar. A Stranger in Olondria is a marvelous book, and the writer herself is totally charming! Can't explain how happy I am 😍

This passage from chapter 19 of A STRANGER IN OLONDRIA is about the best description of the feeling of finishing a book that I‘ve ever read.
“But preserve your mistrust of the page, for a book is a fortress, a place of weeping, the key to a desert, a river that has no bridge, a garden of spears.”
- Sofia Samatar, A STRANGER IN OLONDRIA, Ch. 19, p. 273
A tiny sigh escaped her, slight as a memory of breathing.
This was fantastic. I loved it. A breath of fresh air if you're looking for fantasy that isn't trying to be Tolkien.
Still struggling with jet lag from that 26 hour flight from Sydney to Dubai to London. In a few hours we are taking the train to Paris! For right now am all cozy with my book and my reading lamp. #insomnia #jetlag #ReadingInBed.
My first two reads of the year! Both by black women, so my goal of reading more diversely is off to a roaring start. Now to learn how to use a camera...
I've had a suddenly change of heart. A switch has flipped and instead of mostly nonfiction like I've wanted since November, I'm suddenly all about the fantasy. Give me fun and magic and adventure!
I can definitely recommend A Stranger in Olondria. it is part A Wizard of Earthsea, part David Copperfield, and part Two Years in the French West Indes. #reccomendsday
Stunning. Reads like poetry. The last 30 pages had me in awe. #sofiasamatar, you are a goddess of words.
The writing in this book is glorious but for whatever reason, the plot really did nothing for me.

"She awoke in a world new-informed, but the world I entered was old already, incalculably old, smoke-stained, silent. Its hair had gone gray." Swooning over #sofiasamatar 's beautiful writing. Published by #smallpress #smallpressseptember #diversebooks #fantasy
Not what I was expecting from a fantasy novel, but still pretty incredible.
