I‘m making an effort to read more nonfiction this year... First up, a book I bought when we visited the Lincoln Presidential Library. A fascinating & illuminating book about Lincoln‘s rise to national prominence, his antislavery position & the winding path to emancipation. The author credits much of Lincoln‘s greatness to his curiosity & “capacity for moral and political growth.” A little dense but a really good, thought-provoking read.

I haven‘t read this one yet but it looks interesting. #burn #heatofjuly

Visited Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum & of course left with a book. While there also saw a special exhibit on Presidents with ties to Illinois—Lincoln, Grant, Reagan, Obama—which was really well done. Most popular item in the exhibit according to staff? Maria Pinto‘s copy of the blue dress she made for Michelle Obama. Definitely recommend visiting if you‘re ever in Springfield IL & are interested in Lincoln or history generally.

Finally arrived yesterday. Thanks to Prof. David Blight's course on US civil war on youtube that made me want to know more about this period in history
