Blue Mind
Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do | Wallace J. Nichols
A landmark book by marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols on the remarkable effects of water on our health and well-being. Why are we drawn to the ocean each summer? Why does being near water set our minds and bodies at ease? In BLUE MIND, Wallace J. Nichols revolutionizes how we think about these questions, revealing the remarkable truth about the benefits of being in, on, under, or simply near water. Combining cutting-edge neuroscience with compelling personal stories from top athletes, leading scientists, military veterans, and gifted artists, he shows how proximity to water can improve performance, increase calm, diminish anxiety, and increase professional success. BLUE MIND not only illustrates the crucial importance of our connection to water-it provides a paradigm shifting "blueprint" for a better life on this Blue Marble we call home.

I was born on a small island and have always felt an affinity to water. I know it makes my soul feel good and my mind bright. I didn‘t realise it was a whole area of academic study! Interesting to see how to put some language around those very deep feelings. #bookmail

MsMelissa I feel most at home when close to water, and when I‘m in the water I never feel like getting out! 4y
atla That‘s how I felt when I read my first book on forest bathing! 4y
Mitch @Book_Fiend_Melissa swimming and being in water is one of the things I‘m really missing during this lockdown. 4y

Been meaning to read this one forever! Full of science-y info, but not densely so. It also examines the unquantifiable ways in which water relaxes, centers, excites, inspires, heals. Overall the book pleased this landlubber who still appreciates being in/on (sometimes) and around (always) water, and I think my marine scientist/ship captain/surfer/fisherman husband will like it even more. 💦 🌊 🏄🏻 🎣 💙

BookNAround This sounds amazing. I am such a water baby! 6y
Christine @BookNAround You may really love this, then! Hope you do, if you pick it up. 💙 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I‘m just listening to Laird Hamilton talk about this book! Stacking! 5y

I have been wanting to read this for a long time, finally found it in audio book and it's a great explanation on why I crave water (being by or under it) and a reminder that I need more nature in my life. Recommanded to listen to it while walking by a river ;)

If a reader was to feel bored during the first three to four chapters, I would suggest hanging in there. The benefits of water are not the sole focus. The author introduced the Blue Marbles Project which I felt is an inspiring way to love our earth & it‘s inhabitants. If you aren‘t familiar with the Blue Marbles Project check out the book or search @1bluemarble in social media. We need to do all we can for OUR Earth.

I quickly gave up on trying not to borrow more books than I can read... These, plus the five on my lamp table, and the two audiobooks in the car, and the more than 60 books stuffed throughout my bookshelves, which I have bought, but not yet read, and the four books I just ordered at B&N, which should be delivered by Wednesday... I'm going to need more than three weeks.

Sace Oh yeah. I always borrow more than I can possibly read. I never learn. 8y
AmandaL @Sace Every time I return a bunch after too many renewals, I take out twice as many. 8y

I wondered whether water is a mirror for our darker emotions as much as it is an engine for our happiness. Water quiets all the noise, all the distractions, and connects you to your own thoughts.
