A bold, page-turning novel that follows how a childhood abduction sets two sisters on very different courses Every other weekend, Hope and Edenbackpacks, Walkmans, and homework in handwait for their father to pick them up, as he always does, at a strip-mall bus stop. Its the divorce shuffle; theyre used to it. Only this weekend, hes screwed up, forgotten, and their world will irrevocably change when a stranger lures them into his truck with a false story and smile. More than twenty years later, Hope is that classic New York failure: a playwright with only one play produced long ago, newly evicted from an illegal sublet, working a humiliating temp job. Eden has long distanced herself from her family, and no one seems to know where she is. When the man who abducted them is up for parole, the girls might be able to offer testimony to keep him jailed. Hope sets out to find her sisterand to find herselfand it becomes the journey of a lifetime, taking her from hippie communes to cities across the country. Suspenseful and moving, Eden asks: how much do our pasts define us, and what price do we pay if we break free?

This is a story about how trauma can shape a person‘s life, and what it means to possibly move forward from it. Hope, the protagonist, is a complex, flawed character—but above all she is a survivor. That can mean something different for everyone, even among two sisters who shared a similar experience.

Eden is a nuanced novel about trauma with no easy answers or tidy resolutions. Anything else would be a disservice to its characters.

I really liked this book. Eden, who we never meet as an adult, only in flashbacks, is a victim of kidnapping and maybe more with her sister Hope. Hope, goes on a search for her twenty years later. It‘s well written, about trauma, dysfunction and finding yourself. 4 stars. Worth checking out in July. #NetGalley

I read this one curled up under a blanket. Despite its intriguing premise of the aftermath of two sisters having been kidnapped, I honestly wish that I would have just bailed on it... the characters were hard to connect with and I just felt like it all built up to a disappointing conclusion... #BookAndABlanket #ReadingResolutions

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation, may I point you to my People‘s Book Prize nominated debut? Sassy female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 7y
