Two young English women embark on an adventure to #NewZealand in the late 19th century to marry unknown men. Both surprised by their partners, who turn out to be bitter enemies. Yet the women find a way to stay in touch and we follow their lives, that of their children, as well as orphan girls sent on the same boat to work in this strange place on the edge of the world, with the ever mysterious Māori playing an important part of the plot. ⬇️

I‘m not fond of the narrator so I‘m not sure whether I‘ll make it through the book. But I‘ve started this audiobook for #NewZealand for #foodandlit and #readingoceania

I enjoyed this book a lot! A family saga set in rugged New Zealand. A family feud, problems with locals, gold rush, good times and bad. I loved the strong women in this book, and I hated what they had to go through. Some surprisingly violent events in the book, I‘m sure times were hard. 4+

Megabooks I enjoyed this too but never read the sequels. 2y
Tove_Reads @Megabooks There was a long queue for the third one, so I placed a hold. Turned out everyone had locked their position in the queue, so I‘ll get it in a few days. This means I have to read the second book now 😊 2y

For my #travelthroughbookschallenge I visited New Zealand with this title. Now to be fair this won‘t be for everyone. This is one of the those saga type reads along the lines of The Thorn Birds. It‘s book 1 in a trilogy. Two different women one from England and one from Wales meet on a ship to start new lives in New Zealand. Life long friendships are formed, adventure found and challenges and loss are experienced. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bklover Loved The Thorn Birds! 2y
KristiAhlers @Bklover me too. So I was totally invested in this one. 2y
Bklover @KristiAhlers I just picked up this one because it‘s in Australia. 2y
KristiAhlers @Bklover I just stacked it! That sounds like it‘s going to be a good read! 2y
LeeRHarry Stacked - sounds interesting 😊 2y

A long car ride by myself is a great time to try an audio book. It's good preparation for sitting with friends, reading and wining. 🍷😜
