Heiress Kamila Mughal is humiliated when her brother's best friend snubs her to marry a social climbing nobody from Islamabad. Roya discovers her fianc has been cheating on her and ends up on a blind date on her wedding day. Beautiful young widow Begum Saira Qadir has mourned her husband, but is she finally ready to start following her own desires? Inspired by Jane Austen and set in contemporary Pakistan, Austenistan is a collection of seven stories; romantic, uplifting, witty, and heartbreaking by turn, which pay homage to the world's favourite author in their own uniquely local way.

@Jen_Reads This is amazing! I love it all!!! Three copies of PnP that I don't own. The look and find edition is awesome, those illustrations are gorgeous. A coy of Northanger Abbey, with deckled edges, I love deckled edges. And a Austen cover puzzle, I have had my eyes on this puzzle forever! Thank you so much dear friend!

Omg, we both sent escorted the page flags and magnets. Great minds! 😍😂

Tea, Jane Austen, and Contemporary Pakistan

Pakistan Arts Council of USC ... high tea and a conversation with Nida Elley, author of a short story in the new book Austenistan.

Inspired by Jane Austen and set in contemporary Pakistan, Austenistan is a collection of seven stories; romantic, uplifting, witty, and heartbreaking by turn, which pay homage to one of the world's favorite author. ...members of the Jane Austen Society of Pakistan (JASP).

Hilarious. Also very true!! An ex started dating someone the complete opposite of me , barely a couple of days after dumping me. And while at the time I thought it was heartbreak, in hindsight it was most definitely wounded ego that upset me more !!!

Yup. Sounds just about right about any Indian city as well.

Exactly how the class system works in India as well. Middle class morality , as immortalised by Mr.Dolittle in 'Pygmalion '. Funny how that hasn't changed in India at least for more than a century now.

This paragraph is SO relatable to my friends and me, it's like a conversation we might be having! My best friend has actually done this, even in a big city like Bombay, women are judged so quickly on everything we do, anonymity is very difficult to ensure!

(2/2)Some bits are SO hilarious. This sentence , particularly , captures the subcontinent's colonial hangover so well. Also it's interesting that women in the subcontinent have it almost as difficult as women in 'Pride and prejudice'did!

SO FUNNY. Islamabad sounds exactly like Delhi. I was super excited about this book because what could be better than Jane Austen set in Pakistan( as close to Indian society as you'll get ). This story had the potential to be fun-mean girl Miss Bingley's perspective but the writing was amateurish in my opinion, and lacked depth- maybe due to the fact that it's a short story and had to be wrapped up quickly.
