Just discovered this author today at London Wordsfest. Reminded me of how much I love reading out loud. Amazingly entertaining, funny, and plays a mean sax as well. His reading sold me on the book for sure!

Well, I haven't really "missed out" on these (since I bought them) but I've yet to actually READ them. ? #2016BooksYouMissedOutOn #ReadJanuary
Ahhhh, the power of the written word, and the desire for both a beginning and an end.
I've been reading this wonderful book for a while, in between editing projects and book club picks, and I'm so glad I had an opportunity to sit and finish it. Barwin has a way (which is to play) with words and I enjoyed every page of this.
Starting the #gillerprize shortlist books today. First up, Yiddish for pirates!

So right now I'm going to bail. These Giller Longlist titles aren't grabbing me - I don't Have to read these right now so I'm going to wait for the shortlist first. This was not bad, even though the parrot with his Yiddish was getting on my last nerve, I'm putting it aside for now.
It's also blue. 😊 Yiddish for Pirates is up next in Giller Longlist reading. Admittedly a little gun shy about it after Stranger by David Bergen. Told from the perspective of a parrot.
A book narrated by a wise cracking, polyglot, parrot in which him and a Jewish boy have adventures, become pirates, and go looking for the fountain of youth. Fun times and wildly original.
