This was such a super cute book. I really loved it. The writing was fun and exciting and great for young minds and adults as well. It‘s just such a great fun and imaginative story about aliens, friendship, family and loyalty.
My 4th grade daughter received this as a gift at her birthday this weekend. I think I may have to sneak it out of her room and read it this week. Home was one of my favorite Disney movies, so I‘m hoping I love the book as much or more.
This book is smart, hilarious, and delightful. I don‘t want to say too much about it. Just forget the movie it spawned (not that “Home” is bad; it‘s a perfectly nice film), and read this book. Tip is a fantastic protagonist. I loved it.
This book is so smart and funny. Tip is the BEST heroine. I love it. Big recommend for kids and adults!
#junetunz #ruletheworld One of my favourite kid's books! After the Boov aliens invade Earth, Captain Smek becomes the ruler of our world.
#readjanuary #publishedinthe2000s Some amazing books came out in that decade! Here I've got #historicalfiction , #chicklit , #autobiography , #YA and #childrensbook .
I first experienced this story as an audiobook read by Bahni Turpen and it's still one of my favorites.
It's true the animated movie "Home" was loosely (VERY loosely) based on this book. Forget about that.
This story is darker, a great science fiction story for older grade schoolers. Kidnappings, humans hiding out in Happy Mouse Kingdom, a cross country journey, an alien named J.Lo and a brave twelve-year-old.

12 year old Tip, must survive on her own after her mother is abducted by aliens. The aliens, called the Boov, arrive and take over the Earth, which they call Smekland after their leader, Captain Smek. Christmas, the day of the Boov's arrival on Earth, is renamed "Smekday".
???3/5. The movie "Home", the inspired film version of TMOSD, is 5/5 because the book was confusing at some points but the movie was great! Embarrassingly, I cried...?
Just having a mosey through my niece's bookshelves. Based on its battered condition, I'm guessing she loves The True Meaning of Smekday as much as I do.
