Deceptions
Deceptions: A Cainsville Novel | Kelley Armstrong
16 posts | 30 read | 13 to read
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Otherworld series delivers her most suspenseful novel yet, where the discovery of Cainsvilles dark past and the true nature of its inhabitants leads to murder, redemption, love, and unspeakable loss. Olivia Taylor Joness life has exploded. Shes discovered she is not only adopted, but her real parents are convicted serial killers. Fleeing the media frenzy, she took refuge in the oddly secluded town of Cainsville. She has since solved the towns mysteries and finds herself not only the target of its secretive elders but also her stalker ex-fianc. Visions continue to haunt her: particularly a little blond girl in a green sundress who insists she has an important message for Olivia, one that may help her balance the light and darkness within herself. Death stalks both Olivia and the two men most important to her, as she desperately searches to understand whether ancient scripts are dictating the triangle that connects them. Will darkness prevail, or does Olivia have the power to prevent a tragic fate? From the Hardcover edition.

Hubby is watching a movie I care nothing about, so I‘m continuing to make my way through the Cainsville series. I don‘t know why I‘ve waited so long to read these!!

This is the 3rd of the Cainsville series. Olivia is learning more about her visions and her serial killer parents. We learn more about the people in Cainsville. You must read them in order to understand what is going on

A perfect background ambient music playlist for the Fae book series I'm currently (re)reading. Magic, forests, and mystery 😍

AlaMich That‘s a a perfect playlist (I just checked it out 😊). Do you often try to match your background music to your book? 4y
ShyBookOwl @AlaMich I do! I find ambient music helps me focus and have a more immersice experience 4y
AlaMich What are some other playlists you have found? This is something I‘ve thought of doing but never gotten around to. Not that I mean to have you do my work for me, I‘m just curious. 😉 (edited) 4y

ShyBookOwl @AlaMich Haha no worries! I like Not Quite Classical for a quiet sci-fi or dystopia. And I find Perfect Concentration good for anything contemporary with relatively low stakes. For a gothic read, I usually go with Ambient Relaxation or Sad Classical. 4y
AlaMich Ha! Sad Classical! Thanks! 4y
ShyBookOwl @AlaMich lol yeah, it used to be called Gothic Classical but it changed 4y
Suet624 Ooh, thank you for this. Lovely music. 4y
ShyBookOwl @Suet624 No problem! Enjoy 😊 4y

Another solid Cainsville story, although there‘s very little of Cainsville actually featured. The characters are growing into their identities and their roles, and their interactions are very well done. I both love and hate that the books in this series take place in immediate succession, because I‘m trying to space them out and it‘s tough. Now I have to wait on Book Outlet for the next volume and it‘s gonna be forever! 4/5⭐️

“I want limits, damn it. I‘ll accept omens and portents and second sight. I‘ll accept giant black hounds and creepy ravens and magpies. I‘m still working out the fae and Wild Hunt thing. But I draw the line at people disappearing into thin air.” #Hound #QuotsyMar19

Mom and I spent the whole day on the islands at bark lake and read books. What an enjoyable day paired with a truely enjoyable book! A must read series for anyone!

The forecast said 1-3 inches. We got five!! This is my front yard. Love living in the woods!

So I got to finish the third book in this series, and I am really enjoying it! It's detective work and supernatural beings and murdery goodness. #snowday #bookday

I got distracted yesterday playing on Pottermore with everyone else. So this will just have to be a Flashback Friday, instead of a #TBT post. What was I reading last year at this time? The wonderful Cainsville series by Kelley Armstrong.

Finding out you were really adopted and your biological parents are imprisoned serial killers is just the beginning of this twisted tale of murder, mystery, a hidden destiny, & interfering fae. 😏

[DELETED] 2232195534 I think I have the first book in this series on my Kindle. So, it's a good one? I've liked her Darkest Powers trilogy a lot. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @kaysreadinglife I loved this one! There are currently 4 books in this series, with the final one coming out next year. 8y
BethFishReads 💕 I still have to read the latest one 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BethFishReads something good to look forward too! 8y

The Cainsville series is amazing, but I have to say that this was my favourite installment so far. So many plot twists and stressful character tension, I can't recommend this book and series highly enough. Now on to the next! 😃

Argh!! For gods sake... I can't stand this tension over Gabriel and Olivia! Thank god I only have to wait a couple of weeks for the next book to be released.
Other than that, the mystery/fae side of the story is gripping, and I couldn't put the book down. Armstrong is still one of my favourite authors. 👍🏻

I got married last year so pretty much spent the whole year refraining from buying books. (It was soooooo hard!) I've finally managed to buy this, almost a year late! 🙈 I think I might have to skim read the first 2 just to refresh my memory as its been almost 2 years since I read book 2.

Kelley Armstrong's Cainsville is the sort of living, breathing UF world that grows more complex and interesting with every new installment. I loved the way she eased us in with book one (Omens) and I'm delighted with where we are now in book three. Fae are the new werewolves.
