Hold Me Tight
Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love | Sue Johnson
Heralded by the New York Times and Time magazine as the couple therapy with the highest rate of success, Emotionally Focused Therapy works because it views the love relationship as an attachment bond. This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world. In HOLD ME TIGHT, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond. With this in mind, she focuses on key moments in a relationship-from Recognizing the Demon Dialogue to Revisiting a Rocky Moment-and uses them as touchpoints for seven healing conversations. Through case studies from her practice, illuminating advice, and practical exercises, couples will learn how to nurture their relationships and ensure a lifetime of love.

A helpful book! Emotionally focused therapy strengthens couples' emotional bonds in key moments to support a successful long-term relationship. The premise is adults are emotionally attached and dependent on their partners just like children are to their parents.

“Love has an immense ability to help heal the devastating wounds that life sometimes deals us [...] Loving responsiveness is the foundation of a truly compassionate, civilized society.”

Y‘all everyone should read this book. Johnson offers great tools for strengthening attachment with partners but they are also helpful in looking at other critical relationships. I learned so much and highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JamieArc My partner and I read this book together and loved it. Not only did we learn about ways to think about our relationship, but we learned a lot about ourselves. 4y
Hestapleton @JamieArc yes!! I grew up with an abusive parent so it was super helpful to just be more aware of my attachment issues and how those come into play in my marriage. Definitely things I hadn‘t thought about before. 4y
Crazeedi I would be interested in reading with my husband but I know he would reject the idea. We have a good relationship but lots of things could be worked on 4y
Hestapleton @Crazeedi I feel the same way - my husband just isn‘t a reader. I‘m just trying to take some of the stuff I learned and incorporate it on my end and I talk to him about some of the stuff I thought was interesting. Better than nothing. :/ 4y
Crazeedi @Hestapleton good idea 4y

This was the most useful marriage book I have read. It is a book that I will recommend to others and refer back to often.

My husband and I are heading into new stages in our lives and I was looking for a book that would help foster good communication between us. This book was recommended to me. My fingers are crossed the recommendation is a good one. I have zero patience for bad marriage books.
