Martin Luther
Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World | Eric Metaxas
9 posts | 6 read | 10 to read
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas comes a brilliant and inspiring biography of the most influential man in modern history, Martin Luther, in time for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation On All Hallows Eve in 1517, a young monk named Martin Luther posted a document he hoped would spark an academic debate, but that instead ignited a conflagration that would forever destroy the world he knew. Five hundred years after Luthers now famous Ninety-five Theses appeared, Eric Metaxas, acclaimed biographer of the bestselling Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery, paints a startling portrait of the wild figure whose adamantine faith cracked the edifice of Western Christendom and dragged medieval Europe into the future. Written in riveting prose and impeccably researched, Martin Luther tells the searing tale of a humble man who, by bringing ugly truths to the highest seats of power, caused the explosion whose sound is still ringing in our ears. Luthers monumental faith and courage gave birth to the ideals of liberty, equality, and individualism that today lie at the heart of all modern life.

Probably could have been better with some more editing. But I still enjoyed it, even though it took me forever to read, and I learned A LOT. Wow. I didn‘t know barely anything about Luther or the Protestant Reformation before reading this book. The book is a biography of Luther‘s life — not the Reformation — so it ends when Luther dies. Would be interested to learn about the Reformation after his death.

3.5/5⭐️

Read “twittered” and immediately thought of Twitter as we know it today. I then started thinking about what the Reformation would have been like with social media.. and then I found this gem of an image on Google. 😆🐣

1. Who knew a long book about a 16th century German monk would be so enthralling.
2. 🤷‍♀️ Small town - we don‘t have much going on.. but according to the newspaper there‘s supposed to be a “Trashion” show lol
3. If only.. I would love to read all weekend
4. What do you call it when a Catholic remodels their kitchen? — a counter reformation 🤣

#TBRtemptation post 2! I've heard a lot of gold things about this recently released book as well. On the 500th anniversary of the 95 Theses' posting, comes an extensively detailed biography of one of history's most influential figures. It's the tale of a humble man who revealed the ugliness of powerful men and whose protestations resound through today. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

About 30 minutes after I returned all my library books I was notified that my library hold was ready. 😂 time for this lapsed Lutheran to review church history (last visited over 25 years ago in Confirmation)
