Mortician's Daughter: One Foot in the Grave
Mortician's Daughter: One Foot in the Grave | C C Hunter
5 posts | 5 read | 7 to read
The first exciting novel in a brand-new series from New York Times bestselling author C. C. Hunter! Her dad's job is with the dead . . . and he's bringing his work home with him. Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad's career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she's a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father's alcoholism, she's got enough problems of her own. But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley's door. The young woman's death wasn't the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer's next victim, Riley knows she'll have to help Hayden move on too, but what if she can't let him go? For thrills, chills, romance and laughter, preorderThe Mortician's Daughter: One Foot in the Grave today.

Pickpick

Skipped the historical romance I had planned and read a YA book instead and I don't regret it. I was intrigued by the idea of a teenager not only having to deal with helping spirits cross over but how she handles that along with school and a possibly alcoholic dad. Starting book two today.

15 hours, so far. Will try to read some more today but will certainly not make #25inFive. @Andrew65

Top left, went to the doctor's this morning to have my blood drawn. The lady needed two attempts and it's going to bruise nicely.
Bottom left, new board game that kept me from reading yesterday.
#catsoflitsy - Shadow (middle) and Ghost (top right) the best reading buddies in my bed.

dariazeoli I‘m always grateful if I get a phlebotomist who gets me on the first try with no bruising. I know it‘s not a guarantee. Hope you don‘t bruise too badly! 6y
LittleBug How‘s the game? I put it on my Christmas wishlist cause it looks so pretty🙈 Please tell me it‘s good fun!😉 6y
julesG @LittleBug It's fun and it's simple enough to play with an 8y/o and interesting enough to keep my 13 y/o playing. 6y
LittleBug That sounds good! Thanks!😊 6y
Andrew65 15 hours Is a great total, well done 👏 Hate having blood taken! 🧛‍♂️ (edited) 6y

Mehso-so

This was a YA that is the first in a series. It was just a so-so for me but that may be because YA is just not normally my favorite genre. A 17 y.o. mortician‘s daughter assists the dead with undone tasks so they can pass over. Meanwhile she‘s also dealing with the day-to-day angst of being a teenaged girl who is trying to take care of her widower father. If you enjoy YA, you‘d probably enjoy it. 3.75/5⭐️

BookishMarginalia That cover doesn‘t appeal, though 7y
robinb @BookishMarginalia the cover was a complete turnoff. 😳😱 Based on it alone, I admit I would not have picked this up to read. However this was sent to me as one of a group of books that I am helping to judge for a contest. Yes, that cover is over-the-top creepy and disturbing. 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 It would be creepy to me to be a mortician daughter. 😱 7y
robinb @ForeverNerdy yeah, imagine how much flak a teenaged girl would get?! 😩 7y

Another YA story from the reader‘s choice awards I‘m helping to judge. And another that I probably wouldn‘t have picked up on my own...and yes, that cover is creeping me out. 😳😳😱👀

[DELETED] 3803335244 That cover is creeping me out too! ❤️❤️❤️ 7y
