France Is a Feast
France Is a Feast: Paul and Julia Child's Photographic Journey | Alex Prud'homme, Katherine Pratt
5 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
France is a Feast documents, through intimate and compelling photographs, Julia Child discovering French cooking and the French way of life. It all began under the guidance of her husband, Paul Child, a passionate photographer. Paul and Julia Child moved to Paris in 1948 where he was the cultural attach for the US Information Service in Paris, and in this role he first met Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Brassa, and other leading lights of the photography world. As Julia recalled: Paris was wonderfully walkable, and it was a natural subject for Paul. Their wanderings through Paris and the French countryside frequently photographed by Paul, would help lead to the classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and Julia Childs brilliant and celebrated career in books and on television. Though Paul Child was an accomplished photographer (his work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art), his photographs remained out of the public eye until the publication of Julia Childs memoir, in which many of his photographs were included. In helping to tell Julia's story, they also brought to light the remarkable photographic achievement of Paul Child.

Ke633 That salad dressing sounds awesome!! Thanks for sharing!! 6y
CoffeeNBooks @Ke633 It's sooo good! It's greek yogurt based, but I don't think you can tell a difference between it and other salad dressings. I use it for everything- on salads, on baked potatoes, as dip for vegetables, and as sauce for fish. 😄 6y

I love shopping for books to gift. The Clinton book is on my daughters wish list. I would never gift a political book otherwise.

Paul and Julia Child are my favorite #marriage I‘ve read about lately. So supportive of each other, adventurous and they had so much damn fun together. Haven‘t read this new book I‘m tagging but I‘d love to — Paul was a photographer and it has many of the intimate, casual pictures he took of her. #noteworthynovember

I‘m looking at the photos during World Series commercials. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year. Can‘t wait to really read.
