so-soMy last finish of the year (probably), and #1001books #190/1305. This novel takes place in 1950s-era Ukraine, and supposedly has a lot of wordplay in the original that didn‘t come through in translation. Bummer. It an interesting look at a very polluted steel town that is proud of its Cossack heritage. #192019 #1968
so-soI liked some parts of this book much more than others, and I also felt some of it was lost to me because of my unfamiliarity with the specific setting. Overall, I‘m glad to have read this look at the world from a very different perspective than my own, and it made me more appreciative of my own opportunities.

The kids have nicked the iPad where I have the library app, so I can't finish "The Sea the Sea" just yet. No problem, I have a 1001 BOTM to read on my Kindle. I'll just start that. But it's a PDF of tiny tiny font. ? Maybe I should save if for when I'm back home with the computer. But December is almost over. ?
