I haven't read enough debut authors! Most of the awesome debuts are still on my TBR--I may have to do fewer challenges next year if I want to stop putting off books. I read 5 debuts and would like to see more from 4 of them (sorry, I didn't love Chemistry). But I'll substitute in debut books from my best friends to fill in that space! #5towatch
📖Jade Chang
📖Derek Palacio
📖Imbolo Mbue
📖Ocean Vuong
📖Annelyse Gelman/Arianna Rebolini

Natasha.C.Barnes @RealBooks4ever Me too! But I liked The Wangs vs the World and The Mortifications even more! Have you given those a look? 7y
RealBooks4ever @Natasha.C.Barnes I have not! I'll check them out. 😊 7y

Cinfhen Thanks for posting!! I've only read 2 ...MUST add the others!!! 7y
Cinfhen Took a screenshot for #futurereference 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Cinfhen 😊 Awesome! Out of curiosity--which did you read? 7y
Cinfhen Wangs & Dreamers! Loved Dreamers & I thought Wangs was fun! 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Cinfhen I figured it was either Dreamers and Wangs or Dreamers and Chemistry--those were the most publicized I think. Night sky is poetry. The Mortifications is different from the rest in general style and feeling, but I adored it. It's good if you have an appreciation of magical realism for that book. 7y
Cinfhen Night Sky is my top priority! Looks like a heartbreaker 💔 7y

After seeing all the fabulous #10AuthorRecommendations I‘d thought I‘d like to know #5ToWatch

Which debut authors have left you wanting to read more?!?!

Here are my #5ToWatch in no particular order:
Annie Hartnett
Emily Ruskovich
Yaa Gyasi
Imbolo Mbue
Lisa Ko

Hope you‘ll join me and show me your #5ToWatch

Kalalalatja Good idea! 👏👏 7y
MinDea I just tried to come up with this list and sadly realizing so many of the debut authors/books this year I haven't read. Bought or added to my tbr but not read. I feel so shocked by this! 7y
Cinfhen It can be debuts from 2015, 2016 too @MinDea the only criteria is that they‘ve only written one book so far.... (edited) 7y

batsy Gosh, I gotta get around to reading all of these! I'm always excited to hear about the new books but only get around to it years later 😆 7y
Cinfhen I‘m just amazed at the sheer numbers of debuts in the past 3 years @MinDea @Kalalalatja SO MANY TALENTED new authors 🙌🏻💕🙌🏻 7y
MinDea Ooohh! I can do that!!! 🙌 7y
Marchpane Great idea & love your choices! 👍 7y
LiteraryinPA Good idea!! I‘ll try to think of mine! 7y
Lacythebookworm I definitely agree with your choices! 7y
Cathythoughts This is really good & I must start thinking. I must look up your choices as I don‘t know them all 👍 7y
Reviewsbylola Totally agree with most of your choices. Ruskovich is just not for me though. 7y
Skybariline Other than Lisa Ko, whom I haven't read yet, I have read and loved all of these! 7y
Cinfhen You wouldn‘t be willing to read her next book @Reviewsbylola ??? I can‘t wait to see your choices @Skybariline @Cathythoughts @Lacythebookworm @LiteraryinLititz ❤️ 7y
Reviewsbylola No, I hated Idaho so passionately that I wouldn't waste my time on any of her forthcoming books. Her writing style is not for me. 7y
tracy.m.ng Behold the dreamers was good, hit a bit close to home with some of its themes but really good storytelling 7y
Cinfhen I hear you on the close to home theme 🙄 @tracy.m.ng 7y
Cinfhen Wow! When you HATE a book...You HATE a book 😂 oh well...can‘t love them all @Reviewsbylola 7y
emilyhaldi Still cant believe @Reviewsbylola hated Idaho so much.. I LOVED it!!! #teamcindy 7y
Reviewsbylola It was purely the writing. The story itself had a lot of potential. I felt that her writing meandered way too much. I would have preferred the plot to be more straight forward. She tried too hard to craft lyrical, beautiful writing. Which is fine, just not for me. @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen 7y
Reviewsbylola Then again, I felt somewhat similarly to Celeste Ng's first book (although I was more ambivalent towards the book rather than downright hating it), and she was able to redeem herself (for me) with her latest book, so who knows! @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen (edited) 7y
Cinfhen Yay @emilyhaldi 😊but I can see how Idaho could rub someone the wrong way! It was wordy and a bit jarring at times - I LOVED it! Show me your #5towatch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi #curious (edited) 7y
Cinfhen Just got my copy of Little Fires back, plan on reading it after I finish The Leavers @Reviewsbylola I wasn't such a fan of 7y
kamoorephoto I absolutely HAVE to read 7y
MinDea @Jess7 do you have a list for this? 7y
Cinfhen Yes @Jess7 share!!! 7y
Cinfhen And I'm STILL waiting for yours @MinDea 🤔 7y
Jess7 I still need to name my top 10 authors too. @MinDea 7y
MinDea I'm working on it! 🙌 7y
