Steppin' Out
Steppin' Out: Jaunty Rhymes for Playful Times | Lin Oliver
4 posts | 1 read
Capturing the magic and fun of early childhood, this lively collection of poems, from the creators of Little Poems for Tiny Ears, is a book to be treasured. Being a preschooler means days full of discovery every time you step out of your door. Its a time filled with wonder, at all the sights and sounds of the outdoors and at the huge variety of people there are to meet. This collection of nineteen original poems features little ones eager to explore, whether its splashing in puddles, riding in an elevator or through a car wash, or visiting the library. They go full-steam ahead to the park, the beach, and dance class, somewhat begrudgingly learn to share and get their first haircut, and enjoy lots of time with their families. Full of contagious rhythm and rhyme, this inviting picture book introduces young children to the sounds of poetry through familiar childhood activities, and beloved illustrator Tomie dePaolas engaging children are the perfect match for Lin Olivers bouncy poems. From the Hardcover edition.

Yesterday was day 1 of the #BookFitnessChallenge. 18k steps done and one book finished (though as I started it before the challenge I don‘t think I can really count it!) #BFC

Emilymdxn That‘s an incredible amount of steps! Well done! And great book choice 6y
Caterina Great first day! 👍 I'm counting books I started pre-challenge, but only because I'm usually reading 8 books or so at once and am less than halfway through any of them right now. 😂 That's why I have a hope of hitting my 12 book goal! 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Wow, that‘s an amazing start! (edited) 6y

Pickpick

Steppin‘ Out is a great P book for young readers! It has several poems put together that are very relatable to small children, and is very fun! A mixture of onomatopoeia‘s and imagery, it would be great for RA or GR with your classroom, and getting all students excited and involved! EL 12: Teach to two objectives, language and content could be used, guiding students through the poems and the language, and making sure they understand the content.

MorganH UDL 2.2: Clarify syntax and structure would be used since at this age, students would not be very familiar with poetry, and it would be an introduction to the strucure #UCFLAE3414F17 (edited) 7y
MorganH www.linoliver.com/books/steppin-out/ is a link to the authors website which includes a summary of the book, and a video including more information on the book 7y
JordanD I'm glad you were as interested in this book as I was! I agree this book is definitely for young readers (prek through 1st I think). I think the strategies would work perfectly with this P book. Great review! 7y
DrSpalding Again just because something rhymes does not necessarily mean it is poetic. While the author is Oliver the illustrator is unmistakably dePaola.❤️📚 7y
