For the true crime fans out there, this is a nasty one. Torsos wash up on the river bank in Cleveland, OH not long after games law man Elliot Ness is hired to clean up the city's corrupt police force. If you don't know the story, the final reveal is a twisted one. The artist actually used some real photographs from the case file to fill in some backgrounds. A very unique GN.

This was my pick for March‘s #ReadSpooky2023 prompt of true crime. From 1935 - 1938 there was a serial killer dismembering people in Cleveland, Ohio. Sometimes called the Cleveland Torso Murderer or the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run, this graphic novel covers the investigation, including Eliot Ness, who was Safety Director at the time. This was interesting and I thought the use of real photos and documents added depth. #truecrime ⬇️

Bookzombie FYI: I suggest finding a physical copy of this one. I read it via Hoopla and it was difficult on both my phone and laptop. Some of the layouts were difficult to read. 2y

This graphic novel was really enjoyable. The story in itself is interesting, but what I had never seen before, was the artists using original documents and photos to help illustrate the book. I thought it was creative and the story was well told.

The Cleveland Torso Killings are an unsolved case that still haunts Cleveland to this day. Using actual new articles, transcripts, and police files, Torso shows the politics behind the police force, how this ultimately brought down Eliot Ness, and why this case will never be solved.

It's a brilliant piece of true crime literature. A+++++++

My favorite part of Torso is the way they incorporate real photos of Cleveland in with the panels!

This book deserves a bit more attention, I think. It follows Elliot Ness as he tries to solve the Cleveland Torso Killings at great personal and professional sacrifice. All true, right down to transcripts and newspaper reports!

I love this book. The art is amazing and Bendis is a master at writing complex characters.
