Not sure yet... I‘ve passed halfway but am still vacillating between interested and impatient.
Good thing I‘ve got these library books for the Rest of Time...

“Flat Sammy survived for no reason except that most of us die in pieces, not all at once.”
At it‘s heart, this book is an immigrant story. But it‘s so much more than that. It‘s about the plight of the worker and the poor, needing to be heard. It‘s about the rise of Hitler and what it meant to have family stuck in Europe. It‘s about grief and loss and what it means to recover from tragedy. And it all takes place on an island in NYC,the site of a rendering plant-where dead animals are turned into glue. Exceptionally well-written. ❤️❤️
Why don‘t we learn from history??!
“Anyone who believes that every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way should understand that every act of cruelty is cruel in its own way. There is nothing to be gained by comparing them.”
This is such a lazy, snowy day. I am lucky that I have a husband who feeds me or I probably wouldn‘t eat. Lunch was waffles with whipped cream, strawberry sauce, and strawberry ice cream. Very indulgent and delicious!! #LunchAndABook
I refuse to go outside!! At least until this book is done! 😊

I am really, really liking this book. I have about 75 pages to go. I can‘t wait to finish, but don‘t want it to end! #readingproblems
(Please excuse the legos in background-many children live here 😂)
Still snowing outside! I have my yummy homemade latte in my #notoriousRBG mug and my books! Last night before the snow was too bad I ran out to the library to get my hold that came in because I‘m THAT #bookobsessed. And I‘m extra proud because I only checked out the book I went for! Excited because Barren Island has gotten great reviews!
#TBRtemptation post 1! Marta is celebrating her 80th birthday, and she recalls her childhood on a factory island in New York's Jamaica Bay where glue was made from dead animals. There will be a recollection of the melieu of Jewish, Greek, Irish, and African-American families affected by their smelly and dangerous work and by events during the Great Depression and World War II. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
“Flat Sammy survived for no reason except that most of us die in pieces, not all at once.” I am on page 2 and already loving this book.
