Pickpick

I love the premise of this book, how much Lisa and Miss Loomis had in common. The target audience is probably middle grade students. The book highlighted the ignorance of prejudice and bullying in children and adults. We might not think adults can be bullies but the author shows how it can happen and is sometimes overlooked, brushed aside and in doing so, someone gets hurt.

Mehso-so

This book is set in the south back when desegregation was happening. It's told from a young student with a deformity who has a black teacher being introduced to her all-white school.

The writing style is simple, but I wanted to feel like the author trusted the reader a little more. Most of the characters were either all good or all bad.

Still, it covered some important issues and is valuable for our kids to understand this time period.
