Standing Bear was a Ponca chief who fought for the rights of his tribe. Despite continuously being moved from place to place, with no control over where they were sent, he was a calm and steady prescience for his people. They wanted to work the land in peace & he was able to fight for that right in court. It's an incredible & heartbreaking story. If you want to learn more about the Trail of Tears and what it was truly like, please read this one.

I'm just so glad to be done with this audiobook. Fascinating subject of the 1st Native American to sue a US general under habeas corpus, but it could have been much better written. The narrator wasn't bad, but didn't do anything to help the painfully slow storytelling. That said, I still learned a lot and am glad I read it.

Went to hear Mr Starita speak tonight about the book and telling stories. He was so passionate and probably would have talked another hour.
