Ada Lace, on the Case
Ada Lace, on the Case | Emily Calandrelli
4 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
From Emily Calandrelli—host of Xploration Outer Space, correspondent on Bill Nye Saves the World, and graduate of MIT—comes the first novel in a brand-new chapter book series about an eight-year-old girl with a knack for science, math, and solving mysteries with technology. Ada Lace—third-grade scientist and inventor extraordinaire—has discovered something awful: her neighbor’s beloved Yorkie has been dognapped! With the assistance of a quirky neighbor named Nina (who is convinced an alien took the doggie) and her ever-growing collection of gadgets, Ada sets out to find the wrongdoer. As their investigation becomes more and more mysterious, Ada and Nina grow closer, proving that opposites do, in fact, attract.

And she finished it tonight. This book is written by the lady who made Emily‘s Wonder Lab on Netflix. It makes me so happy to see her being successful and creating all of this science for kids. #science #sciencebooks #kidsreading

#16 for #MiddleGradeMarch is the first in the Ada Lace series. Ada is a WV girl just transplanted to San Francisco. She‘s scientifically-minded and uses technology to help her solve a missing pet mystery. Good family dynamic too.

This was a simple mystery loaded with science, from the names of pets to talk of investigation and more. I really loved how this story handled the science aspects. I believe this could definitely be used as a unit study book or be developed into a lapbook or learning pack. Definitely lots to build on from this story.

From Emily Calandrelli's Twitter: "I created a book about a WV girl who rocks at STEM. She builds robots and goes on adventures. Being from WV there's not a ton of good press about people who come from here. We need more books (fiction & nf) that feature cool WV peeps and growing up as a girl who liked STEM, there wasn't a ton of sciencey adventure books with a lead character who was a girl." The first 3 books are on sale today! #gotowv

ChasingOm I was just talking to a friend the other day about wanting to send her adopted daughter a book about WV that wasn't coal-centric. Nailed it! 7y
