Not as lurid as The Sun King (Mitford's biography of Louis XIV), but an interesting, snarky, gossipy account of the unusual love affair and living arrangements of two great philosophers, Voltaire and Émilie du Châtelet. Everyone is neurotic and petty and Voltaire dodged a bullet with Frederick the Great of Prussia, I'm just saying. (A slower read, Mitford's style is dense).
Book 1 of #24in48. Now off to run a few errands with an audiobook.
