Pickpick

Just Plain Fancy, a RF by Patricia Polacco is set in Amish town, Lancaster. In the book, the young girls find a mysterious egg and raise a beautiful, exciting bird! Nothing plain at all! But by the end of the story the girls realize, plain has different meanings! Here's an article discussing Lancaster's Amish culture and clothing and FAQs: https://lancasterpa.com/amish/amish-people/ #ucflae3414su17

Elizabethhunt96 I also want to mention why I chose this book to read...when I opened up the cover, one of the cars said "Penn State" on it, which is the college I was planning on attending before deciding on UCF. Also, the story takes place in Lancaster,PA which is next to my hometown York. I have driven past Amish buggys before! 7y
DrSpalding Wonderful web compliment to help us better understand the Amish culture. Neat text to self connection shared! This book could meet UCF CCs C1 and C2 for a start. Check them out here: https://diversity.ucf.edu/files/2015/04/21-Cultural-Competencies-With-Levels.pdf 7y
SamanthaPuglisi This is very interesting! I think that a lot of people are unaware of the Amish culture and literature is a great tool to educate students on the Amish lifestyle. 7y
Ashleywwolfe Very cool connections, and while I haven't read the book, I think possibly tying in google earth or something else about location and lifestyle would be a great text to world connection for students! 7y
