This book is a masterpiece. A modern classic that should be translated in all languages and read in all schools.

🎧 I loved the book. Really well defined characters. The horrors of a war fought with muskets & the king‘s warlocks & an odd neutral indigenous species of hairy little humanoids that each side leaves alone.
What makes me happy is that it‘s not all about the lies.
Strong female character. Great narration. Interesting story from beginning to end. The fight scenes are compelling. There are also some strong supporting characters.

The book had me feeling bored outta my mind. Don‘t get me wrong, the premise sounds interesting & the writing‘s good, but it‘s excruciatingly particular. Fantasy can be a slow-to-start genre. I understand that, but when you‘ve chatted for over a 100 pgs about things that could‘ve been expressed w/half the length, I feel like there‘s gonna be a prob. On the other side of it, I may just not be in the mood for a slow-burn fantasy book. DNF @ 30%.
An excellent stand alone novel, military fantasy. This would make a great toe dip into the fantasy genre, for someone who didn't want to commit to a series. Tchaikovsky does great characters, with no difference in complexity and nuance between male and female characters. It has a strong plot with a satisfying ending. Easy five stars. Tchaikovsky just seems to one of those writers who get better and better.
Today's read. I've heard it's Elizabeth Bennet meets pirates.
I loved this book. It's been described as, if Elizabeth Bennett went off to war, with magic.
