Un bel libro, ma per qualche ragione non mi ha entusiasmato al 100%

The writing was beautiful. The tropes didn‘t seem particularly new, but told in such a beautiful and honest way. I like the the main character ended up as such a champion for love

What a beautiful book. The story was very poignant, and I loved the intricacy of emotions presented in the book. It's a very quiet story, but I found it very powerful. Even though I read the book translated into English, the prose was still gorgeous. I think this book is also wonderfully demonstrates the human experience and how we connect with others.

When Jules loses his parents at the age of 11, he and his siblings are sent to boarding school and it‘s as if he loses them too as they are separated by both location and grief. Jules is forever changed as he grows up, tries to find the right path, and reconnects with his brother and sister who will also never be the same. Sad and beautiful, I really loved this. It is a book that will stay with me. #booked2021 #translatedintoyour1stlanguage

Heartbreaking story that made me cry but was well written and somewhat hopeful at the end.

I really liked this family biography, it was layered and balanced and it was easy to empathise with the protagonist and his siblings. This is a good read for friends of Elena Ferrante's Italian Saga

Never has a book made me cry like “The End of Loneliness”. Such deep loss it captures. And anger. And love.

Wow this was a slow reading month for me! Just 4 books completed. The End of Loneliness was by far my favorite read this month and one of my favorite reads so far this year!

OMG...this book! 5 ⭐️ !! It‘s a beautifully written book about the relationship between three siblings who are torn apart as children and reunited as adults by traumas. The story is told through the perspective of the youngest sibling, Jules. The characters are amazing and the book has an alternately heartwarming/heartbreaking plot.

Great first sentence...”I‘ve known Death a long time, but now Death knows me.”

My family is feeling compelled to place their food orders for tomorrow‘s Super Bowl - so I‘m gonna go hide with a book. And perhaps a cat.

This was the first in my own personal #Netgalley challenge. It's very good! Happy to have requested and read it!

Are you ever reading somewhere you haven‘t been for awhile and then can‘t stop thinking about the book you were reading then? I haven‘t taken the bus since December, but due to the metro not having its shit together, I‘m back on it today and I literally just keep thinking about The Queen of the Night and crazily thinking I should reread it now because it was SO GOOD. It just feels weird to think so much about it since it‘s been months now. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I still feel like the translation is a bit awkward in places, but I‘m loving this book. I‘d be finishing it now, but I can‘t make my brain stop thinking about how I have to get to work early tomorrow for a conference call that I found out about like a hour ago. So I‘m slightly annoyed and anxious about it since the invite was from our CEO. 😬

This book is low level bumming me out because it‘s a sad story and I just want to hug Jules every damn page. But then he goes and gets all hopeful on me, so here‘s hoping this book doesn‘t destroy me.

I should be catching up on Middlemarch, but I just started this one. Whoops. I randomly bought this from Book Depository last month and there‘s only two previous posts about this one on here, so I‘m hoping it‘s good. The translation is a little awkward in places, but I‘ll manage.

Der Roman fokussiert sehr auf Jules Perspektive. Schade. Ich hätte gerne mehr Einsichten in Liz‘ und Martys Innenleben gehabt.
manche Dinge bleiben einfach offen und das ist schade. Und wie ich finde, auch ein bisschen unrealistisch. Zum Beispiel, dass die Geschwister nie miteinander über den Unfall zu sprechen scheinen und auch nicht darüber, wie sie jeweils damit umgegangen sind.

Erst bin ich damit nicht richtig warm geworden, aber dann gab es den großartigen Handlungsabschnitt rund um Romanow. ? Und dann ging es niveaumäßig rapide abwärts und endete eher auf Höhe von Erich Segal. ?

Benedict Wells wollte einen großen Bogen spannen, aber bei mir kam nie das Gefühl einer Familiengeschichte oder eines Reifeprozesses auf, dafür war der Erzählton zu sachlich.

Früher am Abend habe ich noch gesagt, ich warte darauf dass die Geschichte beginnt und mich dann gewundert, dass ich schon weit über Seite 100 hinaus gelesen habe. Die Seiten 242-245 nehmen die Leserin beziehungsweiseden Leser aber ganz schön mit.

ich weiß gar nicht, wann genau die Geschichte diesen Sog entwickelt hat.

»In den letzten Jahren habe ich oft gedacht, es wäre nur ein Traum gewesen. Als wäre es nie passiert. Und jetzt ist es plötzlich so, als wäre es gestern gewesen.«
»Das ist, weil wir gerade die gleiche Musik wie damals hören. Die Zeit verläuft nicht linear, ebenso wenig die Erinnerungen. Man erinnert sich immer stärker an das, was einem gerade emotional nahe ist.« (Seite 213)

Gefühlt beginnt die Geschichte immer noch.
So richtig drin bin ich nicht.
Und was war noch mal die Handlung❓

Aber als er von seinem Faible für die Fotografie, für das analoge Fotografieren, für das Entwickeln und die Dunkelkammer erzählt, werden warme, sehnsüchtige Erinnerungen bei mir wach. ??

Wenn man schon so lange nicht mehr in seinem Buch gelesen hat, dass man vergessen hat, wieder Erzähler heißt… ?

Um den Leihfrist-Zeitdruck komplett zu machen, ist seit gestern auch noch Benedict Wells "Vom Ende der Einsamkeit" verfügbar. Meine Ma hat's für mich abgeholt.

Wohl überflüssig zu erwähnen, dass ich auch bei dem Buch vergessen hatte, dass ich es mir vorgemerkt hatte. ?

This German novel gets a lot of praise in the Netherlands at the moment and it has been translated in many languages but it remains undiscovered at Litsy. Which is a shame because it really is a very touching, well-written book.

It is the story of Jules, who loses his parents when he is eleven years old. While growing up, becoming a man and even a father, inside there is always this scared little boy, afraid of life and loss.
