BarbaraBB I love this author! Such great books! 2y

I was reading this book (Yoga, not Adversaire) for weeks simply because I didn't want to finish it. An extraordinary autobiographical texts on meditation, depression, yoga, terrorist attacks in France, migrant crises in Europe, friends and everyday life. Highly recommended!

In 1993 in eastern #France, a man killed his parents, wife, and two children. Shortly thereafter virtually his entire life was revealed to be a lie. This book tells his story and should be great with such good material, but the pacing is off, it didn‘t hold my interest well, and the ending sort of trickles off. A missed opportunity.

BarbaraBB That is a pity, this is one of my favorite authors 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
Megabooks That‘s too bad because it sounds like a good plot. 5y
Librarybelle Echoing @BarbaraBB and @Megabooks ...sounds like a very interesting plot 5y

Soubhiville Is Bindi‘s face cold? Looks like she‘s trying to keep warm snuggled in there. 🥰 5y
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB I‘ve heard the NYT book review podcast folks just gush about this author, so you‘re definitely not alone! I‘ve never read him before, so I don‘t know if he‘s just not for me or if this is an off book. 5y
Hooked_on_books @Megabooks It‘s true crime, so it should be chilling and fascinating and mostly just isn‘t. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville It‘s cute—she does this every now and then, just shoves her face between me and the chair. But then she doesn‘t want me to pet her when she does this. If anything, I can only lay my hand on her and not move it. Goofy dog! 5y
BarbaraBB I do remember liking this book though I don‘t remember much of it. Of you‘re willing to try him again, my favorite is 5y
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB I‘ll definitely keep that in mind. I‘m willing to try him again, though I‘m not sure when that may happen. 5y

Great book! Did not drag. Would read it again. Based on true story and very shocking. Amazing what people can do when they are good liars. It covers the story Jean-Claude Romand.

May be sensitive for some.

One of the most terrifying and upsetting books I‘ve ever read. Absolutely genius. Will never forget it. Reached into my soul and tore it to pieces. You can literally feel the lies and evil vibrating throughout this book

#LittleLies #Rocktober
For years, Jean-Claude Romand‘s family thinks he is going to work in the morning, but he never had a job. For years he is respected because of his job at the WHO, but they have never heard of him. Finally, when his double life is on the brink of being revealed, he kills his wife and kids.
Carrere corresponds with Romand about his motives while the latter is in prison.
This is a very good true crime book. Recommended!

Reading French true #crime in France 🇫🇷📚

Currently camping outside Paris (30km) for a couple of nights before heading to the Dordogne region

Anyone even mildly interested in crime should read this book. I'd argue that even if crime doesn't interest you, it is still unputdownable, wrenching, awesome in every aspect. It's the (true) story of a writer telling the story of Jean Claude Romand, a murderer and impostor, and his friends who never dreamed that everything in the prestigious Dr Romand's life is a lie. I can't justify it here - read it.

squirrelbrain This just got rave reviews in The Sunday Times, so it's added to my TBR list! 7y
Safsquatch @squirrelbrain it's honestly so good, and the fact that it was all real just blew my mind - I'd love to know what you think once you've read it 7y
squirrelbrain @Safsquatch Honestly don't know when I'll get round to it (TBR list getting longer by the day since I joined Litsy) but I'll certainly let you know! 7y

Another new favourite writer. This is the non fiction book Carrere wrote about a French murderer who lived a double life and with whose story Carrere became a bit obsessed. Chilling!
