Dark schemes unfold--and Sophie's loyalty is pushed to the limit--in this thrilling fifth book in the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Keeper of the Lost Cities series. Sophie Foster is back in the Lost Cities--but the Lost Cities have changed. The threat of war hangs heavy over her glittering world, and the Neverseen are wreaking havoc. The lines between friend and enemy have blurred, and Sophie is unsure whom to trust. But when she's warned that the people she loves most will be the next victims, she knows she has to act. A mysterious symbol could be the key--if only she knew how to translate it. Every new clue seems to lead deeper into her world's underbelly and the Black Swan aren't the only ones who have plans. The Neverseen have their own Initiative, and if Sophie doesn't stop it, they might finally have the ultimate means to control her.

I really am enjoying all the different character groups, elves, trolls, goblins, dwarves. I enjoy the world building and alliances. I love the characters that have some complex struggles with EVERYTHING! The series continues and I‘m really glad even though it is sort of formulaic.

My #weeklyupdate 1/8-14
5 books left to read in the KOTLC series. My daughter wants us to finish them before we leave to take her to college. We‘re going to discuss the series (and other things) on the 6 hour drive. My husband is reading them too so he can join in on the conversation 💙 Love reading together.

Love this series. Fantastic young adult reading.

JillsBookshelf I love this series. I feel like it‘s gone on a little bit too long, but it‘s still great. I especially love Dex! ❤️ 4y

In case you haven't heard Merriam-Webster's big announcement, they've added 800+ words to their dictionary, including hangry, adorbs, and from the Pig Latin, ixnay.

In related news, the dictionary's #WordOfTheDay on August 28 was lodestar. In response to today's anonymous NYT op-ed, Merriam-Webster tweeted, "Figures." The Internet thought it was adorbs.

Link to article about new words in comments.

rabbitprincess Hangry is the most useful word! I think my parents would have had an easier time of my childhood if that word had existed then 😂 6y
readordierachel Oh man, I always have such mixed feelings about the new words 😆 6y
CouronneDhiver I know the dictionary must be trying to stay relevant but does that mean “adorbs” is now acceptable in academic essays? 😂😂 We‘re going to sound ridiculous! 6y
RaimeyGallant @CouronneDhiver @readordierachel Maybe it's reverse psychology. Now they've legitimized the slang, people will revolt by using--gasp--the full-length word of origin. 6y
CouronneDhiver We should be so lucky. 🤪 @RaimeyGallant 6y
zugchop Kinda glad ixnay finally made its way in. 😁 6y

I want to give my younger self the Chronicles of Narnia.

BookwormAHN I would like to have discovered The Lord of the Rings earlier. It is one of my favorite books and I didn't read it until my twenties. 7y
