Vulnerability doesn‘t come after trust—it precedes it. Leaping into the unknown, when done alongside others, causes the solid ground of trust to materialize beneath our feet.

Give a good idea to a mediocre team, and they‘ll find a way to screw it up. Give a mediocre idea to a good team, and they‘ll find a way to make it better. The goal needs to be to get the team right, get them moving in the right direction, and get them to see where they are making mistakes and where they are succeeding.

I generally liked this book, which is about how to develop and nurture a productive workplace culture. My issue with it, though, is that all, except one of the leaders discussed were men, yet many of the tactics mentioned were those that women are socialized to use (show vulnerability; admit mistakes; cooperate) and then told we need to get rid of to be successful in the workplace. The military and sports teams were discussed a lot.

Reading this as part of a work book club. I‘m still having to tweak my workspace. The lamp I had there didn‘t shed enough light on the area. Then I had to go exchange the laptop I bought yesterday for a new one because the internal mic would not work on the first one. 😞 But this new one is much nicer, so that‘s a plus. 😊

The concept of workplace culture is something that I've heard bandied about in recent years, and I've done a little reading on it but most books seem to over-complicate things with lots of charts and steps. This doesn't do that. It provides a few simple rules to follow and gives you a ton of great examples of how successful leaders and groups embody those rules. Read as an audiobook - this was engaging and a good listen.

My boss actually asked me to read this months ago and I kept procrastinating, because this really isn‘t the kind of book I would pick up. To my surprise, it was actually an interesting read. I really enjoyed how the author didn‘t just focus on your typical office work groups, but instead he gave real life examples of how all types of groups (Pixar, Navy Seals, airline pilots) can be successful. #nonfiction #corporateculture #leadership #psychology

Alfrazier21 @Avanders no package today! 6y
WeeziesBooks I sent you an email about the package! It was returned to me as undeliverable. 6y
Alfrazier21 That‘s really odd! I double checked my submission form email and the address is correct. 6y
WeeziesBooks I‘ll get it back in the mail either tomorrow or Tuesday. I have the original receipt if you need to see it (I don‘t want anyone to think I just didn‘t send it!) and I‘ll email you the new tracking as well 6y
Alfrazier21 @WeeziesBooks I didn‘t think that at all!! I just want to make sure there‘s nothing wrong on my end so I‘ll follow up with the post office. I live in an apartment complex & you just never know (someone could accidentally have forwarded the wrong address). If you want to leave the apartment number off the box, the main office will ensure I get the package. I really appreciate you sending it again. I‘m sorry for the inconvenience!! 6y
WeeziesBooks Sure thing! I hate that it didn‘t reach you on opening day. 6y

So I haven't been on Litsy much this year because a merger at work and subsequent issues with ridiculous overtime and stress. It didn't leave me with much energy for reading. Thankfully things have calmed down a little. Actually read this book for my job as they arranged "book clubs" choosing this to be first to try to fix some issues after the merger. .... Continued in comments

MoMogrl I took a lot out of this book and think anyone who needs to work as a team should read it. I have seen some positive changes between our two offices as a result of our discussions. Sadly some people chose not to read it although it would have been very beneficial for everyone to. 6y

This book was fascinating. From the first chapter I was encouraged, challenged and validated. If you are a leader of a group of any kind you will find this book invaluable. Using a few different, rather random examples, this book is about strong group cultures and the what/whys/how‘s of that. Easy to read and super interesting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Super awesome book with lots of examples from tech, military, schools, restaurants etc. I loved the writing style to make a normally boring business topic come alive.

zuzia I also love this book! I feel it should be read by bosses and administrators in order to cultivate a more positive and productive work environment! 6y

My colleague had been talking up this book at work and I finally gave in and listened to it. It was great and meshes with other things I‘ve read - like Danny Meyer‘s Setting The Table. It was nicely organized and the stories illustrating the various points were perfect. I‘ll be reading this one again.

When you log into NetGalley to check how many books you have to read so you can sign up for #NetGalleyTBRAttack and accidentally slip and request three more on the way to the log out button... #oops

Clwojick I went on this morning, reviewed 4, and requested 5 more 🤦🏻‍♀️ I honestly can‘t help myself. 7y
