4 posts | 3 read
When globetrotting photographer Magdalena Henry loses the only man shes ever loved, she risks her stellar career to care for his widow and young children on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest. Free-spirited and fiercely independent, Maggie adores her life of travel and adventure. But she has a secret. She cant let go of her first and only love, renowned architect Marco Firelli, now married to her best friend Lena. When Marco drowns in a kayaking accident, Maggie rushes to the Firelli familys summer home on San Juan Island. Once there she discovers that Marco was hiding something that could destroy his family. As fragile, perfectionistic Lena slowly falls apart, Maggie tries to provide stability for Marco and Lenas three young children. When Maggie is offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete in the worlds most prestigious photography competition, she thinks shes found the answer to their problems. Then Lena makes a choice with unexpected and devastating consequences, forcing Maggie to grapple with an agonizing decision. Does she sacrifice the golden opportunity of her career or abandon the Firellis just when they need her the most? Gradually the island begins to work its magic. A century-old ritual to beckon loved ones home offers hope in the midst of sorrow. And a guilt-ridden yet compelling stranger hiding on the island may offer Maggie a second chance at love, but only if she can relinquish the past and move forward to find joy in unexpected places.

I cried through this whole book. This is the 2nd I've read by this author and it won't be the last.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and Maggie uses her camera to tell the stories of the world's disadvantaged. When personal tragedy strikes she drops everything to be help her best friend pick up the pieces. There she learns that while she's been viewing the world through her lens she has missed out on the bigger picture.

? No ice cream for me right now. But I do do have frozen bananas handy for the times I want some yummy banana "ice cream." #BooksAndIceCream #Riotgrams #BookMail

nicholes.book.nook I chopped up cherries to go with my frozen bananas earlier in the week and made black cherry "nice cream". It's all fruit, so you can use it as an excuse for ice cream breakfasts! ? 8y
hes7 @nicholemers Mmm, that sounds delicious! 8y

JazzFeathers Hey, gals, how does this work? You freeze the banana, then what? (this sounds so interesting, but l can't figure it out 🤔) 8y
christineandbooks @JazzFeathers You just put the chunks of frozen banana into a food processor and blend, scraping it down now and the wit a rubber spatula, until the bits finally come together into an ice cream-like consistency. Takes a little while but it's good! 8y
JazzFeathers @christineandbooks l'm going to try this 🍴😆 8y
