Man Who Could Be King
Man Who Could Be King | John Ripin Miller
4 posts | 1 read | 4 to read
When young Josiah Penn Stockbridge accepts the position as aide-de-camp to George Washington at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, he thinks only of the glory and romance of battle. He is unprepared for the reality of America's bloody fight for independence. The Continental Army is starving, underpaid, and dangerously close to mutiny, and Washington fights not just to defeat the British but to maintain order and morale among his own men.As anonymous letters by officers calling for revolt circulate through camp in Newburgh, New York, Washington must make a choice: preserve the young republic by keeping civilian control of the military, or reshape the new government by standing in solidarity with his troops and assuming greater power for himself.During one fateful week in American history, Josiah will watch a conflicted general become a legend and will discover for himself that the greatest struggles of war are those within the hearts and minds of fallible men.

Sleeping Chihuahua. I strongly prefer non-fiction to historical novels. This must be in my tbr as a misguided attempt to desensitize my innate self to that aversion. The Newburgh Conspiracy is fun. So, still tbr. #riotgrams @bookriot 6" Kindle Fire.

Pickpick

Most people think that after Yorktown, the American Revolution was pretty much over. However, this novel shows that was not the case. Focusing on the events of the Newburgh Conspiracy from the perspective of a fictional aide to Washington, this story provides a perspective of Washington that I find refreshing: incredibly flawed, but incredibly passionate. Technically fiction for the character Josiah, but much of what is told in the story is fact.

Just a few of the bazillion kindle books that I need to get to. I'm ready for the Game of Thrones read along, I already have read the first book so I'll hop in on the second! The rest of these are books I hope to get to soon. I usually read 1 or 2 paper books and 1 kindle books but I stopped doing that for some reason!

Felso @SaraFair Doing well. Husband is currently on day 5 (last day this month of taking chemo pills); next week will be the hardest, then will slowly get better until he has to start all over again next month. Had Dr visit Monday; Dr was positive and said treatment seems to be working. Thanks for checking in and Happy Reading! 8y
