#AyUpAugust #Day2 #Babies Meet May Gibbs‘s Gumnut Babies. Most Australian kids would have grown up reading these or watching the cartoon on television. They‘re so adorable, with their pink cheeks, big eyes & gumnut hats! There‘s also Wattle babies, Boronia babies & Gum-Blossom babies. But watch out for the Big Bad Banksia men & wicked Mrs Snake 🐍 They like to eat little babies who wander out alone.

squirrelbrain They‘re so cute! But bad snake.... 🐍 😦 5y

@TaylorMay I'm so sorry for your loss. Here are my two crazies cuddling by the fire (although one is right next to me atm, hoping for crumbs) 🤗

TaylorMay Haha I hope you gave him a few crumbs from me. I live it when pets get along like this! None of mine ever have but it's just so adorbale. Thank you for your kind words and love. 7y

#90sInJuly #day6 #WhereTheWildThingsAre There's a lot of Wild Things in May Gibbs world. Set in the Australian bush, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are two gumnut babies, trying to find their way around their small world, making friends with Mr Lizard & Mrs Kookaburra & staying out of the clutches of the wild Banksia Men & the sly Mrs Snake. If you haven't read these, look them up. The drawings are so beautiful, every gumnut baby has a different flower.

Robothugs I'm going to have to look for these for my nieces and nephews! 7y
Lizpixie Definitely! Her drawings are so gorgeous, there's Wattle babies & Boronia babies & the so cute Flannel Flower babies. There's a collected works which has the all the stories inside. Her cottage is open to the public now with her garden that inspired her work. She's a national treasure here in Australia. @Robothugs (edited) 7y
JenP How cute is this book!?! Probably too young for my daughter but looks super cute 7y

Lizpixie @JenP how old is your daughter? I was about 8 when I read them and fell in love with not just the stories but the artwork as well. This is just a small hardback version for smaller kids. The real books are a lot bigger and full of stories. (edited) 7y
JenP @Lizpixie hmm, maybe then. she's almost 7 but an advanced reader. We read the first 3 Harry Potter books so now thinks she's "too big" for younger looking books. She's mad at me for making her stop before the next book ? 7y
Lizpixie I was an advanced reader too, by this age I was already reading Agatha Christie & Stephen king. It was the art I fell in love with @JenP 7y
JenP @Lizpixie thanks! I will try it with her. It does looks like a beautiful book 7y
LazyOwl I loved reading these books as a kid 7y

My 2nd book tonight in my #LizsLibraryLoves is the classic Australian books by May Gibbs about a set of Gumnut babies called Snugglepot and Cuddlepie & their adventures through the Aussie bush. There's many short stories in the complete collection including meeting Mr Lizard & always running away from the nasty Banksia Men. All small children will love these books, 100yrs of Aussie kids have grown up on them. Extremely cute.🥜🍃

Megabooks That is so cute!! 8y
