Kif Kehlmann, a young penniless writer, is rung in the middle of the night by the notorious con man and corporate criminal, Siegfried Heidl. About to go to trial for defrauding the banks of $700 million, Heidl offers Kehlmann the job of ghostwriting his memoir. He has six weeks to write the book, for which he'll be paid $10,000. But as the writing gets under way, Kehlmann begins to fear that he is being corrupted by Heidl. As the deadline draws closer, he becomes ever more unsure if he is ghostwriting a memoir, or if Heidl is rewriting him - his life, his future. Everything that was certain grows uncertain as he begins to wonder: who is Siegfried Heidl - and who is Kif Kehlmann? As time runs out, one question looms above all others: what is the truth? By turns compelling, comic, and chilling, this is a haunting journey into the heart of our age.

Although I enjoyed The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan, his booker winning novel that I thought was as good as All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Flanagan‘s First Person is a plodding, navel-gazing novel.

I don‘t know what it is about my 2018 Most Anticipated from authors with previous books that I‘ve loved, but their latest ones fall miserably flat on all of their faces! 😩😩 First Person was no exception. Unfortunately. I am desperate for a knock-out read!!

Cinfhen Same for me!!! Expectations ruin so many books for me 7y

I haven‘t even really started Educated and the library let me know First Person was in for me.

AmyG Oooo let us know how this is! 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @AmyG well all my fingers are crossed but I saw I had fairly low ratings on GR. I hope it‘s an amazing reading experience for me though - I really need one of those! 7y

Are there more #littlelies in memoir or fiction? Rocktober day 27

#recentacquisitions #riotgrams day 29

Painting by Ron Francis

Cinfhen Interesting 🤔🤔🤔 7y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen this one is a book about writing a memoir of a liar, but is also a memoir of sorts of Richard Flanagan‘s experience as a ghost writer. Can‘t wait to read it! 🤔🤓 7y
Cinfhen Sounds great, I'll be watching for your review 7y
BarbaraBB Sounds really good! 7y

BookishTrish Do you have an ARC? 7y
Marchpane @BookishTrish I'm in Australia, the book is already out here 😊 7y

The main character's name is Kif and I can't handle it...

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Hahahahahaha I could see where that would be troublesome. 7y
nosferatoos Also the writers name is Flanagan which sounds a lot like brannigan 🤔 7y

I went into Imprints, one of my favourite bookstores, to pick this up and ... well, #yououghtaknow I can‘t stop at one book. 🙈📚
#bookhaul #Rocktober day 17

Tamra I don't know why I keep waiting to read 10th of December. Like I'm hoarding it. 🙂 7y
batsy Nice! I have the digital ARC of First Person. I should get to it! Never read anything by Flanagan. 7y
Abailliekaras @tamra I have a shelf of books I seem to be hoarding! Can‘t wait to read his short stories. @batsy look forward to your thoughts on this one! I loved his Wanting and 7y

BarbaraBB Well played!! 7y
Cinfhen #YouOughtaKnow a book store is a dangerous place for one's wallet! Nice choices!!!! 7y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB thanks! Im@now tempted to go back and change First Person as they now have signed copies in store. But it might be too dangerous for me to go in there again 😉😬 7y
Cinfhen 😂😂send in a non reader to make the exchange!!! 7y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen good solution 😂 7y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen ok, I can justify it this way: if Autumn or Elmet win the Booker (both of which I don‘t have, but want to read), I‘ll *have* to buy it ... so there‘s my excuse. 😂 7y
Cinfhen That seems totally justified! Even if they don't win.... 7y
