The Summer of Naked Swim Parties
The Summer of Naked Swim Parties | Jessica Anya Blau
4 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
Fourteen-year-old Jamie will never forget the summer of 1976. It's the summer when she has her first boyfriend, cute surfer Flip Jenkins; it's the summer when her two best friends get serious about sex, cigarettes, and tanning; it's the summer when her parents throw, yes, naked swim parties, leaving Jamie flushed with embarrassment. And it's the summer that forever changes the way Jamie sees the things that matter: family, friendship, love, and herself. Includes an excerpt from Jessica Anya Blau's The Wonder Bread Summer.

I have to pick Jessica Anya Blau's portrayals of 1970s and 80s California for #CaliforniaLove. They are some of my favorite under-the-radar books. (I think I've mentioned that here before 😉😉) Definitely worth checking out!

Megabooks Also I love this 90s song and video. 7y
CocoReads I've read naked swim parties. I enjoyed it--need to read the others. 7y
Megabooks @CocoReads They're all good! That was my first too. 😃 7y

Mehso-so

What a strange book. I liked the mellow summer vibes, and there were some cool parts to the story (shout out to the nudist stoner parents), but there were also some wtf moments.

Since I managed to finish my book last night, I thought that starting a book with summer in the title was a good idea on this ice storm day. Fake it til ya make it works for weather, right??

Nebklvr I hope so! 8y

Blau is probably my favorite writer of #dysfunctionalfamilies! Most of her books are crazy families in Southern California in the 1970s. Her novels are hilarious and spot on! #photoadaynov16

RealLifeReading I've never read her books but am intrigued now! 8y
Leelee.reads How funny- her dad must be Sheridan Blau? He was my prof one semester and told a story about reading his daughter's work. It was about a writer who wandered around the house for a week in a bathrobe, refusing to speak a word until his writer's block left. After reading, Sheridan Blau criticized his daughter's story as unrealistic. She replied, "Dad, it's a true story! You did that!!" ? 8y
Megabooks @RealLifeReading I really have enjoyed them! @Leelee.reads I'm not sure, but that definitely sounds true!! 8y
