Just a couple of the books from my husband‘s shelves. He used to work in the music industry designing album covers and is a music enthusiast, especially rap & hip hop #🎼

I looked forward to reading this, but it's just ok. I like Serrano's writing style, but he seemed to detached from the subject and it felt like he removed himself from the culture in order to write about it. Serrano is CLEARLY a hip-hop fan so this almost academic take was strange to me. The info and illustrations are solid, and I'd def read his next book, but this is a bit of a pass. Plus, no Outkast songs? Crazy. Good to flip through not read.
Today's rain-day-treadmill run was powered by the playlist inspired by this book. As I read each section, I listen to the songs referenced and then add them to this playlist. Today, as I ran, I listened to these songs. So interesting!
A wonderful introduction to the world of rap - the trends, the lyrics, the meaning.. the art work is amazing too!
Saw this book as a display in the cultural appropriation section of a social justice exhibit. The task was to go through this book, pick out some lyrics that pack a punch and post it on the art wall. I have never been a fan of rap but this book has kindled an interest!
Shame. I bought this book for my husband a year ago and he hasn't touched it. Guess I will add it to MY library.
Shea Serrano is one of the funniest people on Twitter. His tweets on basketball and parenting always have me rolling so of course I had to get his book, The Rap Year Book. It doesn't matter if you're not into rap. If you're into humor, try this book. The art by Arturo Torres is fantastic too. (See above) #Recommendsday
