Lady with Lapdog and Other Stories | Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
2 posts | 4 read
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov(1860-1904) may be likened to his contemporaries, the "pointilliste" painters. Piece by piece, episode by episode, character by character, he constructs in prose a survey of the human condition. as David Magarshack writes in his introduction, on reading these stories 'one gets the impression of holding life itself, like a fluttering bird, in one's cupped hands'.

#SundayMorningReading not sure there is any more room on my lap. 1 book, 1 7 yo boy, 1 switch, and 2 small dogs. They are all keeping me warm in the cold weather.

kspenmoll What a juggler! One thing about winter that is wonderful is all the snuggling that happens! Enjoy! 6y

Pickpick

These got better as they went along which is just what it said in the introduction but which I kinda refused to believe. Not sure why it's taken me so long to read Chekhov and based on these I will probably read more. These stories are delicate but clear-sighted, human, fragile and melancholy. The best of these were perfectly wonderful.

Lindy Nice review. 😊 8y
