The Ninja Librarians: Sword in the Stacks
The Ninja Librarians: Sword in the Stacks | Jen Swann Downey
7 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Shelve This Book Under "D" for Dangerous. (Also daring, dramatic, dashing, daft, and dazzling!) After stumbling upon the secret society of time-traveling ninja librarians, Dorrie has finally joined Petrarch's Library as an apprentice! One day, she'll actually go on missions to rescue people whose words have gotten them into trouble. For now she's taking some interesting classes: First and Last Aid: When Nobody Else is Coming Spears, Axes, and Cats: Throwing Objects with Precision and Flair Codes, Invisible Inks, and Smoke Signals: Keeping Secrets 101 But on a training mission to 1912 England, Dorrie finds herself dangerously close to a member of the Stronghold the Library's biggest enemy. This is her opportunity! Dorrie can spy on the enemy, find the missing key...and become a real Lybrarian! But if she makes a mistake, Dorrie could lead their enemy right to the very place she's trying to save...and everyone she cares about. Praise for The Ninja Librarians: The Accidental Keyhand: "Scrambles so madcap that it's hard to turn the pages fast enough to keep up."-Kirkus Starred Review "[A] melding of fantasy, adventure, and history...Readers who miss the collegial, magical setting of Hogwarts will enjoy exploring Petrarch's Library." School Library Journal "Delightfully funny from the first page." -Booklist "A rollicking adventure with a smart heroine, heaps of mystery and the whole of history to explore. It's like finding Lara Croft running your local library! " -Lissa Evans, author of Horten's Miraculous Mechanisms

Any suggestions for this? I‘m scared my local library won‘t allow us continued access.

Addison_Reads My little library here in Texas offers temporary cards to people staying at local RV parks. Others might as well. Overdrive/Libby should also still work through your own local library wherever you may travel as long as your card doesn't expire during that time. 6y
ferskner At my old library, people could pay a fee (I think $50 for a year?) for a out of town card. Otherwise, could you use your local library's system? As long as you're in good standing and your card doesn't expire it shouldn't be a problem 6y
Samplergal @ferskner I‘m afraid to ask... I‘m in good standing for sure. Just worried one day they will not allow it. Thanks. I‘ll look into the $50 a year deal. Still a bargain. 6y

Samplergal @Addison_Reads Really? I wonder how long you‘d have to stay to qualify. Likely we won‘t be anywhere for more than a week. That seems unlikely. I hate to lie. 6y
ferskner I don't think you should worry. It's SUPER common for people to only use their cards for ebooks and e-audio. Like, I know tons of librarians even who only use their cards for that purpose. Whether you're at home or traveling, it doesn't make a difference. As long as your card doesn't expire during that year, you should be fine (and many libraries will let you renew over the phone - I'd check on that). 6y
Lcsmcat Brooklyn public library allows nonresidents a card for $50/ year. 6y
LibrarianRyan Will you still own your house or maintain a mailing address? If so your library card will remain valid. If day your parents address will be a temporary permanent address you could get a card at their library. Also many libraries sell non-resident cards. Just be careful and make sure to ask that the non res card covers digital services. Not all do. 6y
Addison_Reads @Samplergal They offer it for a week up to a month, depending on how long you're staying. They make you fill out a form with the address of the RV park you're at and then you have access to books, movies, and the computers. I'm not sure how common this practice is, but can't hurt to ask wherever you might end up. 😀 6y
Johanna414 As long as your current library card remains active, you should still maintain access to any eBooks, audiobooks and online resources through them. I think my library only requires patrons to update their card every two years or so 6y
Johanna414 Also, look into some of the bigger city library systems in the state where you currently live. As a NY state resident, I get a free New York public library card even though I live 6 hours from the city. Obviously I never check out physical books but I use Overdrive all the time 6y
Samplergal Thanks to all responding. I‘m a little scared to bring it up to my library, as we live in Fort Lauderdale where they have snowbirds and travelers. They crack down a lot on non-residents. But you have given me lots of ideas. I‘ll look around for access for seniors/ campgrounds/non residents. It sounds like no free options are available though. Brooklyn library sounds good , as it appears they have a ton of ebooks and audiobooks. Thanks again. 6y

Tomorrow is my new favourite day! #AskALibrarian on twitter. I mentioned it here last week but wanted to remind Littens. I also think it could be really cool if after the hour is up, we post what we asked for recommendations for and the books we got under the hashtag #AskALibrarian . We can all enjoy the recs and maybe get a few more!

The time is 9-10am PST!

Suet624 Please keep reminding us!!! 😀👏🏼❣️ 8y
LectricSheep Oh right! Okay remind me-- is this EST or west coast time? For some reason I'm thinking west coast? 8y

Taking a leaf out of the book of whoever did a month of intense Goodreads giveaway entering (can't remember, all of y'alls awesomeness blends together). Two MG books won this week! I've found it helpful to sort by "date ending" and go through everything ending w/in the next 48 hours or so, keeps it from getting too overwhelming.
