It's Rafe Khatchadorian's first day at Hills Village Middle School, and it's shaping up to be the worst year ever. He has enough problems at home without throwing his first year of middle school into the mix, but luckily he's got an ace plan for the best year ever--if only he can pull it off. With his best friend Leonardo the Silent awarding him points, Rafe tries to break every rule in his school's oppressive Code of Conduct. Chewing gum in class--5,000 points! Running in the hallway--10,000 points! Pulling the fire alarm--50,000 points! But not everyone thinks Rafe's plan is a good idea, especially not the teachers, parents, and bullies who keep getting in his way. Will Rafe decide that winning is the only thing that matters? Are things about to go from magic to tragic? Find out in this hilarious--and heartwarming--#1 "New York Times "bestselling hit! Includes a FREE POSTER, a teaser to the upcoming "I Funny," and over 100 illustrations!

Join Rafe Khatchadorian in Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life as he navigates the chaos of adolescence, where fitting in is a challenge. With a rebellious spirit and a love for art, Rafe confronts bullies, family drama, and friendship struggles. This humorous tale, filled with vibrant illustrations, shows that while middle school is tough, embracing individuality is key to self-discovery and creativity.

This book is really similar to diary of a wimpy kid so if you enjoy that you will surely enjoy this. It‘s a good book and has a great sense of humour but it‘s considered childish. No matter what it‘s consider I enjoyed it.

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Austin. I would have liked more on the summary and the theme overall. 3/6 3y

Rafe
RAFE-Rules Aren't For Everyone (it was his game) He tries to break all the rules. At first Rafe didn't really care about school, he started playing his game. The first detention he got he was so proud. Detention lead to suspension. He mom gets mad about his grades going down. He was offered a art scholarship
He doesn't fit in, his grades were going down
He changed this by doing something more creative. Showed his potential.

Middle School The Worst Years of My Life , written by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, and illustrated by Laura Park, is a super fun RF book and also a New York Times Best Seller. This novel was a fun and easy read that talks about different struggles of a middle schooler, similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I personally think Diary of a Wimpy Kid is better overall, but this book is still a great read, especially for those entering middle school.

emilybanne This book is good for an IR. The students will enjoy reading the book because of the simplicity of the writing style. One activity that is good can be found here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.middleschoolbook... This link provides some questions and topics the book brings up. 6y
emilybanne The students can write or talk about it with a partner or even as a whole group. They can also talk to their parents about these topics and adreas any concerns they have about entering middle school. A UDL strategy can be 9.2 Which is Facilitate personal coping skills and strategies. Parents who are discussing these topics with their child can help with these coping strategies and they can use examples from the book to help as well. 6y
emilybanne An ESOL strategy would be 29 and that is to offer a variety of reference materials to the student that they can use at an independent level. I can give them a dictionary, scratch paper to write on, sticky notes to draw on, and they can use these materials to help get through the book independently. They can also highlight words they don't know and draw out connections they made while reading. #UCFLAE3414SUB18 6y

"People always talk about how great it is to get older. All I saw were more rules and more adults telling me what I could and couldn't do, in the name of what's 'good for me'."

It's been awhile since I read the book, but my daughter wanted to see the movie -- she saw part at after school care.
I have to say .... quite good! This one far surpassed my expectations. Now, I'm going to read the book again soon.

SmartBookaholicsIncBookstore I didn't even know there was a movie! 7y

After spending the first 9 years of my career teaching high school, I'm taking a jump to middle school (7th and 8th grade to be exact). With that being said, and while I love YA, I don't spend a lot of time in middle grade novels, so my fellow Littens, I need your help! What are some MUST HAVE novels I should add to my bookshelves that are appropriate for middle school? #TeachersOfLitsy #BookRecommendations

Erinreadsthebooks Good luck! I taught high school English for ten years then moved to the Media Center. Change is good! 8y
Cinfhen Yay for you! Lucky students 🍀🍀🍀 8y
Bookzombie I think for spooky/mystery fun, the Lockwood & Co. series is great. For zombies, Jonathan Maberry's Rot & Ruin series. I also think that there are some historical fiction YA that would be okay for 7th & especially 8th graders like Between Shades of Gray, Code Name Verity, and Rose Under Fire. 8y

readinginthedark Valente's Fairyland series is great fantasy! 39 Clues are popular, and Mary Downing Hahn probably writes the best newer middle grade horror books. And a lot of classics written for a young audience are middle grade rather than YA. Most of my favorite middle grade books are fantasies, but I wanted to give you a variety of genres. 8y
AndreaReads Thank you! @Erinstutts and @Cinfhen I'm excited, but scared, for this new adventure! Thank you, @Bookzombie and @readinginthedark for great lists! I'm starting to put together a wish list for my new classroom library! 8y
asiriusreader Wonder continues to be my favorite realistic fiction for middle graders. My 6th graders were enraptured when I read it out loud to them when I taught that level a few years back. 8y
readinginthedark Oh, I second @asiriusreader too! Wonder is so good. 8y
hermyknee Oh my gosh! You're going to have so much fun. You'll be an amazing middle school teacher 💕 8y

One of the first books I've been able to just sit down and read this year, it's good to get away from reality with a good funny younger oriented book for a while, funny read I would recommend!
