pickThis book is not for everyone. It's dense, but I learned a lot. I'm from Central California and I was happy to find a book that looked at more than just LA and SF. Best chapters are on the labor movements in the 20s and 30s. Worst are the last two with just a litany of names in tech and Hollywood. Great book if you want to understand a multi-faceted state. It's more complicated than it appears. But you'll need patience!
My score from two indie bookstores in California!! Recycled Bookstore (in San Jose and Campbell) is one of my favorite bookstores ever. Sadly their cat, Bob, passed away a couple of months ago. 😢 Pilgrim‘s Way in Carmel-by-the-sea was also very cute and had an entire bookshelf dedicated to animals (mostly dogs and cats). 😻 #california #indiebookstores
