Very well documented and cited super intense period of English history. Really interesting to read about how different queens during this period wielded and used their powers in different ways. I ❤️ how the author takes time to explain the different theories as well as provide documentation. There totally needs to be a TV show of this history! 3.5/5 stars, a bit boring on places, not enough explanation of somethings, but otherwise excellent.

This was a really interesting look at the queens from the time of the Norman conquest to Henry II (1066 to 1154). The author takes original source documents (written by those actually present) and tries to extrapolate the truth from the legend. I like that she focuses on how much power they had. I don't normally go back this far in English history, but I like this author.

Oh how I wish I had another lifetime to read all of the books Ms Weir studied before writing this fabulous history of the Medieval queens! The times are fascinating to me. QUEENS OF THE CONQUEST is a satisfying read and if you‘re interested in this era, do pick up a copy!

Every once in a while I feel the need to indulge my passion for medieval queens and Alison Weir - and this one delivers. We know very little of this era (roughly 1050 to 1175), which makes this both fascinating and frustrating. I enjoyed most the sections on medieval life - what they ate, wore, the furnishings, etc. It is hard to keep the family trees straight - especially when all four queens covered are named Matilda. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
