Just finished the book. So, these will be my first thoughts. This book is a prequel to the first book and explores the origins of the island. It is a multi narrative work. But, all the strands work well together. It is a harsher read than the first, looking at the abuses faced by the founders of the island, including sexual violence and slavery . It's not graphic, is well written and nescary. But, it's still there.

Today's #bookmail. I read the first in the series last year and it was my book of 2016. I have been eagerly waiting for the sequel ever since.

My review is long and it's here ow.ly/dd1130atVn1 Here I'll just say Naondel is a feminist clarion call in fantasy form and it's for everyone. It's difficult and upsetting and powerful and uplifting and important. #arc #netgalley

Moray_Reads I need to add that there's a trigger warning for rape with this book. It's not graphic or gratuitous but it happens several times 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Is it as good as Maresi? 8y
Moray_Reads At first I didn't think so but by the end I thought it was better! But darker and more adult 8y

It's 2am and and I just finished reading 480 pages of Naondel in one sitting and I had to register my love and awe for the incredible Maria Turtschaninoff. Honestly, I don't think a fantasy novel (and definitely not one aimed at YA) has ever had my feminist heart surging so. Full review to come soon, but first some sleep. Good night, Littens x
