Paper Boats | Dee Lestari
6 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
Shes a free-spirited dreamer. Hes a brilliant painter. But now their shared passion for art has turned into something deeper. For as long as she can remember, Kugy has loved to write. Whimsical stories are her passion, along with letters full of secret longings that she folds into paper boats and sets out to sea. Now that shes older, she dreams of following her heart and becoming a true teller of tales, but she decides to get a real job instead and forget all about Keenan, the guy who makes her feel as if shes living in one of her own fairy tales. Sensitive and introverted, Keenan is an aspiring artist, but he feels pressured to pursue a more practical path. Hes drawn to Kugy from first sight: shes unconventional, and the light radiating from her eyes and the warmth of her presence pull him in. They seem like a perfect matchboth on and off the pagebut revealing their secret feelings means risking their friendship and betraying the people they love most. Can they find the courage to admit their love for each other and chase their long-held dreams?

This takes place in Indonesia and has been translated into English. I enjoyed not only the characters, but getting a peek into their culture. It is currently included in your Kindle Unlimited subscription, and just 99 cents for the rest of us.

Have you ever read chick lit from Indonesia? I hadn‘t. This is light and fluffy and sometimes incredibly frustrating. Also, most of the time it felt like it could have been set anywhere. Full review at http://booknaround.blogspot.com/2018/10/review-paper-boats-by-dee-lestari.html

Picking up the first of my #passportlitsy books. Doesn‘t hurt that this has boats in the title and on the cover. I‘m a sucker for boats and water. 😁 This is for Indonesia.

tif Such a pretty cover! 7y

I was curious about this book, as I'd never really read a book set in Indonesia and certainly not one written by an Indonesian. It's a fun little YA romance that gets a little bit like a soap opera, but I liked it enough. I'll call it a pick, only because I'm rounding up. #LitsyReadingChallenge #LitsyRC15: Translated

BethFishReads This is totally new to me. I'll see if my library has a copy 8y
Sarahreadstoomuch @BethFishReads it's pubbed by Amazon Crossing, so my guess is that if they have it - it's an ebook. I found it as an 'Amazon First' book. 8y
BethFishReads Ohhh I tend not to pay attention to those. Maybe I should 8y
Sarahreadstoomuch @BethFishReads same - I usually ignore those emails. This one was recent, maybe you can still get it? 8y
BethFishReads I just saw it still in my inbox 😊 8y

The character is teaching reading and writing to Sudanese children in Indonesia... and discovers how important representation is when connecting with them.
