Enjoyed this origin story, but just also kept hearing the Arrow-verse versions of some characters, like the Canary. Not a bad thing!

In honour of my Batgirl 🦇 costume for Halloween this year, I decided to break out some of my partner‘s comics, starting with ‘Batgirl and the Birds of Prey‘
I‘m usually more of a Marvel fan, up I‘m slowly finding myself enjoying the DC universe more and more.
Only problem is, we only have Vol 1 🤣🤣🤣
This isn't my favourite iteration of Birds Of Prey, the writing is just okay and I'm still not thrilled with Barbara Gordon being back as Batgirl after so many years as Oracle. But my bigger issue is the whitewashing of Helena/Huntress, who has been depicted as a woman of colour since the New 52 relaunch in 2011 but in this series (and on this cover) looks like she just has a slight tan.
I don't usually read DC but this was really accessible and fun. The writing was quick and the fights were good. I liked the character building as well.
This was okay. The series gets better after this arc, so if you're interested, I would start with volume 2 when that comes out. I would only recommend getting this if you're a fan of Batgirl or an obsessive collector like me, lol. 🐦🐦🐦/5
5/5 I loved this!
I REALLY enjoyed Black Canary's stand alone series, and was so sad when I heard they discontinued it, she's so bad ass! Anyway, I decided to pick this to read because of her, and it was so worth it! This is a great introduction, and sets up the series very nicely. If you're a fan of Batgirl, Black Canary, or just girl power in general, do yourself a favor and read this, you won't be disappointed.
