#WhereAreYouMonday - in France but traveling to Germany because Tom Ripley is diabolical
“There‘s no such thing as a perfect murder,” Tom said to Reeves. “That‘s just a parlor game, trying to dream one up. Of course you could say there are a lot of unsolved murders. That‘s different.”
I‘m enjoying the third book of The Talented Mr. Ripley series. #FirstLineFridays
Features Highsmith's most famous and beguiling antihero. Quite different to most murder mysteries, which is something I enjoyed about it.

A perceived slight leads Tom to entangle hapless picture-framer Jonathan in a deadly plot to scare the Mafia out of Hamburg. Predictably, things get messy, and equally predictably Tom walks away with his life, and his reputation unsullied or no more sullied than it was before. Great fun.
Its a while since i last dipped into the wonderfully sociopathic mind of Patricia Highsmith's creation tom Ripley so in this 3rd bk he didn't fail to impress and appall. Ensconced in his french villa with heiress wife in the 1st half he uses an English picture framer as a pawn, enjoying manipulating him into a criminal path. In 2nd half he cleans up and mayhem ensues. I love Highsmith's mind so will find bk 4 et al v soon.

Third book in this series and I find out he plays Ripley in an adaptation of it. I love Patricia Highsmith‘s books. If you haven‘t read her and love thrillers I highly recommend her work.
My Grandma used to rent out her flat, and one tenant left a terrible mess behind. Really, you don't want to see what we had to see after the tenant had finally left. This poor book was on an otherwise empty bookshelf - the only nice surprise in a very grim situation.

At times the book felt a bit long-winded, but nevertheless a fantastic psychological thriller. There's so many moments where you want to shake the protagonist and scream at him "don't do this!" or "just tell the truth!"
A couple of years ago I found some lovely bound books next to the paper recycling containers. I couldn't leave them behind of course. Since this is part 3 of the Ripley series, I took me some time to finally get to this book as I had to buy and read the previous parts too. Love this series, Tom Ripley is such a terrifying character.
