Everyone swears by Yeast of Eden, the Mexican bread shop in town. But tonight, the only thing on the menu is la muerte . . . Struggling photographer Ivy Culpepper has lots of soul-searching to do since returning to seaside Santa Sofia, California. That is, until the thirty-six-year-old enters a bread making class at Yeast of Eden. Whether its the aroma of fresh conchas in the oven, or her instant connection with owner Olaya Solis, Ivy just knows the missing ingredients in her life are hidden among the secrets of Olayas bakery . . . But Ivys spirits crumble when a missing classmate is suddenly discovered dead in her car. Even more devastating, the prime suspect is Olaya Solis herself. Doubting the woman could commit such a crime, Ivy embarks on a murder investigation of her own to prove her innocence and seize the real killer. As she follows a deadly trail of crumbs around town, Ivy must trust her gut like never beforeor someone else could be toast!

If you like bread, pugs, or cozy mysteries, you‘ll probably enjoy this charming read. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a cozy mystery before this one. I liked the characters, and the bread parts felt well paced. The perpetrator seemed to come out of nowhere, alongside some unaddressed ableism in the end, though. I‘m also not at all a fan of the “the one that got away” trope. Content warnings for grief, parent death, vehicle accident, murder.

I really enjoyed this audiobook...it‘s the first in a cozy mystery series, set in a bread shop. Ivy, the main character, recently lost her mother in a hit and run accident. She returns to her hometown to mourn and to heal with her father and brother. She decides to take classes at the local bread shop. One of the students is murdered, and Ivy wants to solve the case. Fun characters and drool worthy bread descriptions make this a good read!

I'm a sucker for culinary cozy mysteries so I enjoyed this one. It's first in the series too, which is nice as I have a bad habit of jumping in midstream #cozymystery

It's been a rough day with our house offer being rejected and the price cranked up, but a visit to the library with my munchkin made it a little better.

readinginthedark @saresmoore Thanks! There are some pictures of others that look promising, I'm just worried 'cause this is the second time we've had issues with the offer process in a week! 8y
readinginthedark @Blueberry 😊We went to a special Lego build hour for kids at the library and grabbed that book to continue the fun. 8y

Sometimes it's good to put the stitching away and pick up an actual physical book. Only a couple of chapters into this one, but I'm already liking it. Plus there are two bread recipes in the back. 🍞😍 #cozymystery

Debiw781 I just started reading this one today 8y
